Star-spangled Beauty with Flair
What's New in Beauty
By Belinda Clarke
Even more pertinent is the new shimmer powder by BeneFit Cosmetics called "Kitten Shops New York City," the net proceeds from which are going directly to the Twin Towers Fund created by New York City's Mayor Giuliani. According to Julie Bell, manager of this charitable project for BeneFit, the product was initially created in June of 2000. For BeneFit, what started out to be a whimsical product launch to commence on October 2001 turned somber after the September 11 tragedy. As a result, the founders of BeneFit, Jean Danielson and Jane Ford, created a worldwide donation drive called "Kitten Loves New York City."
The purpose of the project, which was dubbed "Operation Kitten," is twofold, says Bell. First, all net proceeds from the sale of the product will go directly to help those affected by the tragedy. Second, she says, the Kitten Loves New York City campaign is designed to encourage women to get out and shop. "Our goal is to prompt women to start things moving again and not feel guilty about shopping," she says. "After all, women are a driving economical force, and it's important that we feel good about resuming our daily routines as much as is possible. With Kitten Shops New York, women can feel like they are truly helping by contributing to a cause and helping move the economy at the same time." Kitten Shops New York is available at major department stores and online at www.BeneFitcosmetics.com and www.sephora.com.
When it comes to achieving a look of "natural beauty," Weingarten says her goal is to help women look like themselves, only better. "I always try for the woman's natural beauty/personality to shine through," she says. "My greatest compliment is when a woman tells me that she feels beautiful; that I've made her look the way that she always wanted to look."
