Star-spangled Beauty with Flair
What's New in Beauty
By Belinda Clarke
As for what lies ahead, Weingarten sees a change in winter trends from the dramatic to a more natural, matte look for the face. For women seeing a sunny, healthy-looking glow as the weather gets cold, Weingarten says the most important thing to do is take care of your skin. "Sitting indoors most of the day, or getting blasted by indoor heating and harsh winds, can do a real number on your skin," she says. "Keep hydrated by drinking enough water, and try a richer moisturizer than you'd use during the year. And don't skip your SPF and sunglasses, because the sun can reflect just as strongly off the snow and reflect those damaging UV rays.
Weingarten recommends bronzers as a good way to keep looking fresh all winter. "For daytime, try to avoid the extra sparkly or shimmery bronzers," she says. "I have found that peach or apricot blushes are flattering to nearly every skin tone, acting as a highlighter on darker skins and a brightener on lighter skins.
In line with looking natural is a flawless face, which can be achieved with the right foundation. Joey Roer, founder of Joey New York, a skincare company that specializes in unique skin treatments and cosmetics, recommends "Pure Pores Liquid Powder Foundation," which is designed to fight the appearance of pores and wrinkles and smoothes the skin. "The Pure Pores Foundation has a silicone base that allows the formula to glide on smoothly and lightly," Roer says. "Silicone is also crease-resistant, so it won't sink into lines or wrinkles on the face. It contains plant extracts such as cucumber, nettle and ginseng, which all have astringent-like properties to help shrink and tighten the pores. When the pores are tight, the skin looks smooth you have an airbrushed, flawless look."
