That Pregnant Glow
Keeping Your Skin Radiant and Healthy
By Jacqueline Rupp
Serious Skin Symptoms
Although stretch marks, varicose veins, melasma and dry skin can be annoying, some skin symptoms can be downright dangerous. Here are some skin issues that should be checked out by your doctor immediately: - Swelling hands and feet: This could be the beginnings of pre-eclampsia, a condition causing high blood pressure and reduced blood flow to the fetus. Headaches and blurred vision are other symptoms of pre-eclampsia, which can be managed with bed rest and medication.
- Itchiness all over the body in the third trimester: May be a symptom of obstetric cholestasis, a condition affecting the liver, causing bile to build up in the blood. Itching may begin on the palms of hands and soles of feet. Medications are given to correct this problem, and early inductions are often advised for this uncommon condition.
All About the Glow
So, why does a pregnant woman have a certain "glow" to her face? It is partly due to water retention puffing out the face, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. The warm color comes from the increased level in blood circulation and may even cause a flush feeling. It is important to note that drinking lots of water will not exacerbate this condition, and it is always vital to stay properly hydrated. Concealors can help cover up red blotchy spots that appear more visible. Want to see more?
