Expert Q&A

I have been trying to conceive for six months. My OB/GYN says I have to wait for a full year before I can see a reproductive endocrinologist. While I was complaining to a group of friends about how slow things have been progressing, one suggested that I have regular chiropractic adjustments. I have never been to a chiropractor, and I'm not sure how that would benefit my chances of conceiving. Can you enlighten me?
Chiropractic care is sometimes only thought of as back and neck pain. For some reason, some of my colleagues use those marketing avenues to attract new patients. It is true that chiropractic care is an excellent route to take for the relief of back and neck pains. However the true benefits of chiropractic care go well beyond taking the pressure off the pain sensitive portion of the nerves.
When a patient receives an adjustment to their spine and the pressure is taken off the nerves, the brain via the spinal cord is then better able to communicate with the organs and cells along that pathway. For example if there is nerve pressure diminishing the neural impulses to a woman's uterus or ovaries, those organs would have measurably diminished function. The ability to produce a viable egg and carry to term is less probable than if there were unimpeded nerve flow. The nerves are only 10 percent sensitive to pain! The other 90 percent of their function runs all the other functions of the body.
Many of my colleagues as well as my own experience have reported patients who came for other reasons and in their course of treatment reported inability to conceive. Doing nothing other than chiropractic they were able to conceive. I wish it were true in all cases, but I have heard of many."
