Expert Q&A

I'm single and adopting a little girl from Kazakhstan, which will be very rewarding but has become much more expensive than I anticipated. I wanted to have a "welcome home" party for my daughter in lieu of a traditional baby shower. Since I have already had to buy everything I need for the baby before I even leave to get her, how can I properly word the invitation to ask for monetary contributions instead of gifts?

Haven adopted two children from Guatemala and faced a similar issue with adoption announcements. I suggest treating the wording for this as you would any other. Simply state, "Monetary donations will be greatly appreciated." There are several card companies that have ready-made adoption announcements which you should be able to search for on the Web to celebrate this happy event.

Good luck and best wishes!
