Do herbal teas help fertility? And are there any special diets out there that can help my fertility? Thanks much.
Tea leaves contain phytochemicals. Phytochemicals are present in plants as a defense against disease and sun damage, amongst other things. Research is showing phytochemicals reduce disease risk and increase immunity in people. Do phytochemicals help with fertility? I canŴ say for sure. I donŴ know of any studies that conclude herbal teas increase fertility. Herbs are not regulated by the FDA. I do not recommend consuming large amounts in hopes of getting pregnant, as well as once you get pregnant. In general, I donŴ think moderate consumption of herbal teas is a problem, but use of herbal teas to enhance fertility is not what I would be focusing on.
I would focus on a well rounded diet and healthy lifestyle to enhance fertility. Cessation of smoking, drinking alcohol, and large amounts of caffeine are standard recommendations when trying to conceive. I recommend focusing on all foods, not just one in particular to enhance fertility. Go for fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, yogurt, milk, tofu, lean meats, fish and poultry. Exercise four to five times per week, even if it is just walking around your block! Being healthy is what helps with conception -- not only for you, but your husband as well. You both need to eat healthy and take care of your bodies and then you will be ready for a healthy pregnancy!"
