Over the course of his 20-year career, Dr. Lawrence Werlin, otherwise known as "The Werl," has worked hard to advance the world of reproductive medicine. Most recently, he earned national attention for his leadership role in conducting a medical breakthrough study on the effects of pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) on women of advanced maternal age, with recurrent pregnancy loss and with two or more failed in-vitro fertilization cycles. A leader in reproductive technology, research, education and patient services, Dr. Werlin was responsible for the first baby in the United States to be born from a sister/sister-donor frozen pre-embryo tubal transfer. He is the founder and medical director of Coastal Fertility Medical Center. He also founded and was the medical director of the Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian Fertility Service in Newport Beach, Calif. for 10 years. Dr. Werlin was honored as the recipient of the National Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine and served as the National Fellow in Reproductive Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. He served as chairman of the Validation Committee for the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies from 1990 to 1999. He is also a co-founder of GENESIS Network for Reproductive Health, a statewide organization of noted fertility specialists and leading researchers who are studying the uses of PGD. Dr. Werlin was selected as Orange County's Best Doctor in Fertility and named among the Best Doctors in America from 1996 to 2002. | |
