Birth Defects Board

I was wondering if you considered ever having a board for those parents who have babies or children with birth defects or learning disabilities. I have two sons and one for each. It is always helpful to hear from others who are going through the same things. My youngest has the birth defect and is not gaining weight too well. I would like to talk to others with the same problem to see what they have done to help with the weight and possible large motor skills development.

Webmother's Note: You can find the board here.

New to the Site But Not to Parenting!

I just found your Web site this morning. I found it to be very informative. Being a parent of a 10-year-old, 4-year-old, 3-year-old, and 19-month-old, it can HELP me a lot. Not to mention my kids are all boys. I was wondering how the diary section works. I think that is a great idea to share your thoughts and insane days with others. I have signed up to receive your newsletters and i am looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank You,

Laura Lackey

The Militant Mama's Article

I was bothered by your latest article. While I agree handgun violence (and violence in general, for that matter) should be something we fight against so that we can bring our children into a safer world, I disagree with your approach on how to reach this goal. How can more laws that further restrict the rights of lawful citizens assist in decreasing the violence when the laws that currently exist are been enforced less and less? According to a Syracuse University study, the Clinton-Gore Administration has overseen a 44 percent decline in federal prosecutions of gun crimes. Our government, from local to federal, must be able to enforce the laws that already exist if we, as parents, are going to see a less violent world for our children. The current laws are more than enough, if enforced, to drastically reduce, if not eliminate handgun violence. If we continue to pass further gun control legislation, only those who will obey the laws without enforcement will comply to them. The only group that is made safer by this are the criminals who find less resistance to their crimes against lawful citizens. Be aware that the maternal scope of your audience doesn't automatically define us as supporters structure gun legislation. Restricting the rights of lawful citizens will never be the answer.

A Preconception Request

To Elisa and all at Preconception.com,

Thank you so much for such a wonderful site. I read the diaries (religiously!) every week and get so much comfort and inspiration from them. I have recommended the site to tons of girlfriends who are also trying to get pregnant.

I just wanted to make a small request. If it is at all possible I think the preconception diaries section would be easier to navigate if all the ladies who have conceived are moved into the Graduates section. Just a minor thing but I honestly think it would improve the site.

Again, thanks very much for providing such an important service -- it really does make a difference.
