Mary Had Her Babies!

Andrew Douglas (Andy) weighed in at 4 pounds, 4 ounces and is about 16 inches long. He was born via Cesarean at 11:14 a.m. Carolyn Grace (Gracie) weighed in at 3 pounds, 10 ounces and is about 16 inches long. She was born via Cesarean at 11:17 a.m.

The doctors are extremely pleased with Andy, amazed he went 10 weeks without a sac and has no breathing issues, much less anything else. They are telling us that we should plan on 2-3 weeks of hospitalization for them. They do not release kids before 35 weeks (they are 33 weeks 1 day). They also need to be suck/swallowing, and they need to be stabilized in the other major areas in order for them to be discharged. So two weeks is a reasonable guess.

We are deeply in love with these two. We stand in total awe of God's grace to protect them from so much, for so long, and to have us give birth to them and see no signs of problems outside the realm of normal...amazing Gracie and Andy.

What joy it is to have staff come in and surprise us by decorating our room with congratulatory banners, to see them cry with us as we breathe huge sighs of relief, for the doctors to doulbe and triple check with us that Andy was truly ruptured for 10 weeks as he shows no ill effects from it. We are all just amazed.

I am doing well. I refused the pain meds after yesterday afternoon, as I was vomiting from them, makiing them not worth it to me. They took the IV off this a.m. I have been extremely determined to get moving, so I have been walking the halls, sitting, changing positions...just trying to heal quickly from it all.

Tomorrow, they will remove my bandage. They stopped the insulin yesterday. I have been on a clear liquid diet since the surgery and so far my sugars have been 60-100, mostly in the lower numbers. This is a good sign. My back has been quite sore, so I think it is going to be a challenge to get my back in shape.

They caution us to expect the unexpected, that there will be ups and downs over the next few weeks, but all agree there is no reason to anticipate and major problems with the kids! Could we be more blessed?

I am eager to be a member of Toddler's today, especially since I am a first-time mommy. Do you know when you will have this Web site working? Thanks!

BirthPlan.com

Birth Plans are a great and commendable idea. They can provide a sense of power and control to the parents, which I believe they have a right to exercise.

Although hospitals have come a long way in providing personalized services to parents-to-be, I have witnessed the fact that they have a long, long way to go. Unfortunately, when in a hospital, patients and their parties must follow all sorts of rules and policies the particular hospital chooses to carry. Is very rare the hospital which offers unrestrained patients' wants.

At home, parents-to-be are royalty and they do as they wish. Everyone present follows the parents-to-be's needs and there is a harmony and familiarity that a hospital could never provide.

Very Truly Yours,

Recipes Today

I just checked out your recipes site and really liked what I saw. It seems so hard to cook at the end of the day and I get discouraged. I think your site will give me some good ideas for healthy meals I can make quickly. Thanks for paying attention to what us working moms need!

Liza B.

P.S. I have a great recipe that I'm sending into your desserts contest!
