A Note to Mary

CONGRATULATIONS and may the Lord richly bless you and Gracie and Andy. He cradled those two babies the entire time you were carrying them and He will continue to carry them in His loving care.

I'm glad that it's all over for you now and you can proceed to be a family!! You are in my prayers and I will continue to pray for Gracie and Andy as they endure many loving hands being laid on them the next two weeks.

Best of luck and I look forward to hearing about the progress these littles ones will make!

Take care!

Natural Childbirth Poll

I was disappointed that there was no room for comments in this poll. Here's my question: Why does taking something for the pain of childbirth suddenly render the birth experience "unnatural?" This school of thought REALLY bothers me, and I think it's a terrible burden to put on a mother-to-be. Unless my baby comes out of my mouth, I would still consider vaginal or even Cesarean delivery "natural" regardless of whether I needed something for the pain (or to speed up labor). Sometimes nature doesn't take care of us very well, that's why so many women used to die in childbirth. I read stories of women who've put their lives in danger not accepting drugs till the last minute because of the pressure to have a "natural" birth.

Frankly I think we don't do ourselves any favors by saying a birth only counts as natural if there are no drugs (for pain or otherwise) involved at all. Of course I would prefer not to have an epidural and will try to avoid it because it's better for the baby, but if it comes to that I refuse to feel guilty or bad about needing it. We take asprin when we have headaches, why is it unnatural for us to want pain relief during childbirth? I'll bet the cavewomen chewed some kind of herb or something that we don't know about!

Thanks for letting me sound off.

Liked Excerpts

I was most interested in reading the excerpts from Adrienne Lieberman's in book "Easing Labor Pain: The Complete Guide to a More Comfortable and Rewarding Birth.
