Viessmann U.S. Recalls Boilers Due to Fire Hazard

Name of Product: Vitodens 200 Boilers

Manufacturer: Viessmann Manufacturing Co. Inc., of Canada

Hazard: The boiler can leak gas, posing a fire hazard to consumers. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves the Vitodens 200 boiler. The gas-fired boilers are white, wall-mounted and have "Viessmann" and "Vitodens 200" printed on the exterior in silver letters. The model and serial numbers included in the recall are listed below. The model number is located on the silver rating plate on the side of the boiler. Contact your certified HVAC contractor to open the boiler and locate the serial number on a white label on the side of the boiler, or under the bottom support panel. Vitodens 100 boilers are not included in this recall.

Sold by: Plumbing and heating contractors nationwide from January 2002 through December 2007 for between $4,000 and $7,500.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the boilers immediately weather permitting and contact their certified heating contractor or Viessmann for a free replacement of the boiler's O-ring.

Pottery Barn Recalls Wooden Hammock Stands

Name of Product: Wooden Hammock Stands

Importer: Pottery Barn, of San Francisco, Calif. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: When used outdoors, the wood in the hammock stand can deteriorate over time and break, posing a risk of falls and lacerations to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Pottery Barn has received 12 reports of injuries requiring medical attention, including lacerations, neck and back pain, bruising and one incident involving fractured ribs and about 50 reports of the hammock stand breaking.

Description: The wooden hammock stands measure about 154 1/2 inches long by 53 1/2 inches in height by 53 inches in width. There are two black metal brackets on the base and on the arms of the hammock stand. All Pottery Barn two pole wooden hammock stands sold from 2003 through 2008 are included in this recall.

Sold through: Pottery Barn catalog and the firm's Web site from March 2003 through July 2008 for about $300.

Remedy: Consumers should remove the two top side brackets of the hammock stand and dispose of the remaining portion of the hammock stand. Contact Pottery Barn to schedule a free pickup of the brackets and to receive a merchandise credit for the amount of the stand.

Wal-Mart Recalls General Electric Toasters

Name of Product: General Electric Toasters

Importer: Wal-Mart Stores Inc., of Bentonville, Ark. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: An electrical short circuit can occur between the heating element and the bread cage, posing a fire and electrical shock hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Wal-Mart has received 140 reports of fires or sparks coming from the toasters or the toasters tripping the circuit breaker in consumers' homes. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled toasters have a chrome steel body, a black plastic base and controls with either two or four openings in the top. The GE logo is located on the front of the toasters just above the controls. Model numbers 169115 and 169116 are included in this recall. The model number is printed on the bottom of the toasters.

Sold at: Wal-Mart Stores nationwide from September 2007 through July 2008 for between $17 and $28.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled toasters and return them to any Wal-Mart for a full refund or replacement toaster.

Gotham Lighting Recalls Fluorescent Recessed Ceiling Lights

Name of Products: Gotham Compact Fluorescent Downlights (Recessed Ceiling Lights)

Manufacturer: Gotham Lighting, of Conyers, Ga. They were manufactured in the United States and China.

Hazard: The relay on the backup battery of the lights could be programmed incorrectly and prevent the lights from functioning in an emergency. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Description: Only Gotham Compact Fluorescent Downlights sold with the optional backup battery pack are included in the recall. The lights are recessed ceiling lights that were manufactured between November 1, 2007, and July 31, 2008.

Sold by: Electrical distributors and sales representatives nationwide from November 2007 through July 2008 for between $250 and $350.

Remedy: Consumers should inspect the fixtures immediately and contact Gotham Lighting to receive a repair for the light fixture.

Igloo Products Announces Recall of Coolers

Name of Product: Igloo Marine Elite Coolers

Manufacturer: Igloo Products Corp., of Katy, Texas. They were manufactured in the United States (cooler) and China (latch).

Hazard: Sharp edges on the stainless steel latch attached to the cooler can pose a laceration hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Igloo Products has received eight reports of lacerations requiring stitches on the consumer's legs or arms.

Description: This recall involves Marine Elite coolers sold in white with stainless steel latches. The coolers were sold in four sizes: 72 quart, 94 quart, 128 quart and 162 quart.

Sold at: West Marine stores nationwide from January 2008 to July 2008 for between $80 and $375.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the cooler immediately and contact Igloo Products Corp. to receive a free latch replacement kit.

Harry Potter Bookends Recalled by Giftco

Name of Product: Harry Potter Bookends

Hazard: The paint on the bookends contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves poly-stone bookends painted and shaped in the characters of the Harry Potter book series. Bookend characters include Harry Potter, Hedwig and Hermione, and Crookshank.

Sold at: Elementary school fundraising programs, discount and dollar stores nationwide from June 2004 through January 2006 for between $3 and $28.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled bookends away from children and return them to Giftco for a refund.

Petzl America Warns of Burn Hazard from Headlamps
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, has announced a safety alert for the following consumer products. Consumers should immediately stop using rechargable batteries with any of the products listed below.

Name of Product: "MYO" and "MYO Belt" Headlamps

Distributor: Petzl America, of Clearfield, Utah

Manufacturer: Petzl S.A., of Crolles, France

Hazard: If the headlamp is used with rechargeable batteries, the cable connecting the battery pack to the lamp can spark, melt or catch fire. This poses a burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Petzl has received 13 reports of sparking and/or melting, with two reports of flames. One consumer received a minor burn to the hand, and another experienced singed hair.

Description: This safety alert involves the "MYO" and "MYO Belt" headlamps with name and model numbers listed below. The "MYO" headlamps have a battery pack attached to the headband. The "MYO Belt" headlamps have a remote battery pack attached to the headlamp via a long electric cable.

Hazard: The sip top on the water bottles can pull off, posing a choking hazard to young children. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

PB Heat Recalls Gas Boilers Due to Carbon Monoxide Hazard

Name of Products: Gas Boilers

Manufacturer: PB Heat LLC, of Bally, Pa. They were manufactured in the United States.

Hazard: The pressure switch could have an internal defect that could fail to shut down the boilers under vent or air inlet blockage. This switch defect could allow the boilers to produce excessive levels of carbon monoxide, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning to consumers. No injuries or incidents have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the DE and PSC II Gas Fired Cast Iron Boilers with the Endura Plastics Model ES2035 pressure switch used for home heating and domestic hot water heating. The boilers were available in either natural or LP gas. The boiler rating label is located on the top jacket panel on Series PSCII models and the left side jacket panel on the Series DE models. The label includes the model and serial number. The following model names and serial numbers are included in the recall:

Wolf Appliance Recalls Gas Ranges Due to Burn Hazard

Name of Product: Wolf Appliance Gas Ranges

Manufacturer: Wolf Appliance Inc., of Madison, Wis. They were manufactured in the United States.

Hazard: Delayed ignition of gas in the 18-inch oven can cause a flash of flames to be projected at a consumer when the range door is opened, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Wolf has received 97 reports of units experiencing delayed ignition, including 15 minor burns. There have been no reports of fires or property damage.

Description: This recall involves Wolf Appliance 48-Inch gas ranges with model numbers P48, PS48 and R48. The gas ranges are stainless steel with a double oven. A "Wolf" appliance logo is on the front of the larger oven door.

Sold at: Home builders and appliance stores nationwide from January 1998 through June 2008 for between $5,000 and $9,000.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled gas range 18-inch oven and contact the manufacturer to schedule a free, in-home repair. The large oven and all cooktop burners are not affected and may be used.
