Children's Storage Bins Sold at Lowe's Stores Recalled

Name of Product: Children's Storage Bins

Importer: L G Sourcing, Inc., of North Wilkesboro, N.C. They were manufactured in Taiwan.

Hazard: Surface paint on the storage bins could contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled storage bins are wooden with scalloped edges and were sold in pastel green or pink. Item number 226782 (pastel green storage bin) or 226781 (pink storage bin) is located on the bottom of the storage bin. No other storage bins or colors are included in this recall.

Sold at: Lowe's retail outlets nationwide from March 2007 through February 2008 for about $6.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled storage bins away from children and return them to any Lowe's store for a full refund.

DEWALT Recalls Table Saws Due to Laceration Hazard

Name of Product: DEWALT DW744 Jobsite Table Saws

Manufacturer: DEWALT Industrial Tool Co., of Towson, Md. They were manufactured in Mexico.

Hazard: The pivot bracket on the saw can separate, which can misalign the blade and the fence and cause kick back. This poses a laceration hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: DEWALT has received one reported incident of the table saw's blade misaligning. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the 10-inch DEWALT jobsite table saw model number DW744. Date codes included in the recall are 200715 through 200740. The table saws are yellow and black. The model number and date code are located on the name plate on the front of the saw. Table saws with an "X" stamped on the name plate by the date code are not included in this recall.

Sold at: Major home centers and hardware stores nationwide from April 2007 through January 2008 for about $500.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled table saws and contact DEWALT for the location of a service center to obtain a free replacement table saw.

Onward Manufacturing Recalls Gas Grills

Name of Product: Broil King Gas Grills

Manufacturer: Onward Manufacturing Co., of Ontario, Canada. They were manufactured in Canada.

Hazard: The bottom of the cook box that contains the burners can melt or crack as a result of a grease fire. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall includes the Signet, Sovereign and Sovereign XL series gas grills.

  • Signet series: (model numbers starting with 986xxx) 400-square-inch cooking surface with three burners and drop-down shelves; includes models with side and rear burners.
  • Sovereign series: (model numbers starting with 987xxx) 450-square-inch cooking surface with three burners and drop-down shelves; includes models with side and rear burners.
  • Sovereign XL series: (model numbers starting with 988xxx) 600-square-inch cooking surface with four burners and drop-down shelves.

 

The model number can be located on the back panel of the grill.

Sold at: Independent retailers nationwide from February 2006 through April 2008 for between $450 and $700.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the grill immediately and contact Onward Manufacturing for a free repair kit.

Waxcessories Recalls Electric Simmer Pots

Name of Product: Electric Simmer Pots

Importer: Waxcessories Inc., of Dracut, Mass. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: The simmer pots have wire connections that can become loose, posing a risk of fire and electric shock to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been 161 reports of discolored cords, loose wires and wires separating from the pot. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The electric simmer pots were sold in a variety of styles and were designed to melt scented wax in a ceramic cup. The cup sits on a ceramic base that contains a 40-watt bulb, socket and electric cord. The recall includes all designs of the electric simmer pots and all item numbers. The words "ELECTRIC SIMMER POT" and the design name are printed on the bar code label, which is located on the bottom of the base. Sold at: Gift and novelty shops nationwide from April 2002 through April 2008 for between $17 and $25.

Wal-Mart Recalls Charm Key Chains Due to Lead Exposure

Name of Product: "Hip Charm" Key Chains

Distributor: Wal-Mart Stores Inc., of Bentonville, Ark.

Importer: FGX International Inc., of Smithfield, R.I. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: The charms on the key chain can contain high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested and can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: The Illinois Attorney General informed Wal-Mart and CPSC on April 16, 2008, that the key chain was found in the home of a 9-month-old child who was discovered to have high blood levels of lead. The child was observed mouthing this key chain.

Description: The recalled key chain has several charms including a button, clover, leaf, heart and a sand dollar. The charms hang from a silver-colored chain. The words "Hip charm" and UPC (#31568 11017) are printed on the product's packaging.

Sold at: Wal-Mart stores nationwide from April 2005 through April 2008 for about $6.

Remedy: Consumers should not allow children to handle the key chain and return it to any Wal-Mart store for a full refund.

Children's Hooded Sweatshirts Recalled by Brents-Riordan Inc.

Name of Product: Hooded Youth Sweatshirts and Jackets

Manufacturer: Brents-Riordan Inc. LLC, of Shreveport, La. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: The garments have a drawstring through the hood, which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the Youth Hooded Sweatshirt (item # 11037Y-39) and the Youth Insulated Bomber with Hood (item #1113Y-39). The item number is found in a label located underneath the care label. The sweatshirts have a camouflage design and "Photoflauge™" is printed on them.

Sold at: Various retail stores nationwide from July 2007 through December 2007 for between $20 and $30.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard or return the sweatshirts to either the place of purchase or Brents-Riordan for a full refund.

Cabot Recalls Composite Deck Cleaner Due to Inhalation Hazard

Name of Product: Cabot Composite Deck Cleaner

Distributor: Cabot Stains (a division of Valspar Corp.), of Newburyport, Mass. They were manufactured in the United States.

Hazard: One of the components of the composite cleaner can react with metal foil residue on the packaging, releasing heat and chlorine gas. This poses a fire and inhalation hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Cabot has received one report of the composite cleaner's plastic container partially melting and emitting a chlorine odor. No injuries were reported.

Description: This recall involves the Cabot Composite Deck Cleaner #3502. The deck cleaner is a granular concentrate that, when mixed with water, is used to clean composite surfaces such as decks, railings, steps, fences and siding. It was sold in a 2-pound plastic container. The label on the container reads: "Cabot Composite Cleaner" and has number 3502 at the bottom of the front of the label.

Sold at: Home improvement centers and hardware stores nationwide from February 2007 through February 2008 for about $20.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the product and return it to the store of purchase for a full refund. If the container looks deformed or if it feels hot to the touch, immediately call Cabot anytime to arrange for the safe handling of the product.

A.O. Smith Recalls Gas Water Heaters Due to Carbon Monoxide Hazards

Name of Product: Natural and Propane Gas Water Heaters

Manufacturer: A.O. Smith Water Products Co., of Ashland City, Tenn. They were manufactured in the United States.

Hazard: The water heater's flue gas temperatures can exceed safe limits and produce excessive temperatures in the venting unit, posing a fire hazard. Also, the water heater's exhaust can leak into the surrounding room, posing a carbon monoxide hazard. No injuries or incidents have been reported.

Description: This recall involves 75-gallon natural and propane gas water heaters. "A.O. Smith" or "State" is printed on the side of the unit. A.O. Smith and State model and serial numbers included in this recall are listed in the chart below. Model and serial numbers are printed on the water heater's rating plate.

Name of Product: Holiday Times Candleholders

Hazard: The candle holders could tip over, posing a fire hazard. Also, the glass holder could break, posing a laceration hazard to consumers. No injuries and incidents have been reported.

Description: This recall involves three Holiday Times candle holders shaped as a Santa Claus, a snowman and a goblet. The goblet is made of glass. A tea light candle sits inside the holders. "Holiday Times" is printed on the product hang tag.

Sold exclusively at: Wal-Mart stores nationwide from September 2007 through February 2008 for between $13 and $17.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to Wal-Mart for a full refund.

Master Lock Recalls Lock and Leash Locks

Hazard: Red surface paint on the locks contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves red Lock and Leash locks with model number 1551D. The locks have a matching red coiled cable used to anchor items. Master Lock® is printed in white above the combination display. Other colors are not affected by this recall.

Sold at: Hardware stores and Internet retailers from March 2007 through January 2008 for about $8.
