TJ Power Sports Recalls Dune Buggies Due to Ejection Hazard

Name of Product: Twister Hammerhead Dune Buggies

Importer: TJ Power Sports LLC, of Irving, Texas. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: The seat belt adjustment for the shoulder buckle can break during impact or stress, posing an ejection and injury hazard to driver and passenger.

Incidents/Injuries: TJ Power Sports has received one report of a seat belt breaking that resulted in nerve damage to the rider's right arm.

Description: This recall involves the dune buggies "Twister Hammerhead" with model number UM150IIR and model year 2004. The dune buggies were available in red, blue or green. "Twister Hammerhead", the model number and the model year can be found imprinted on the bar behind the driver and passenger seats.

Sold through: Twister dealers nationwide and online retailers from July 2004 through December 2004 for about $3,000.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using these dune buggies immediately and contact TJ Power Sports for instructions on how to receive a replacement seat belt.

Polaris Industries Inc. Recalls ATVs Due to Risk of Injury

Name of Product: Select "Outlaw IRS" ATVs, Model Year 2006-2008

Manufacturer: Polaris Industries Inc., of Medina, Minn. They were manufactured in the United States.

Hazard: A retention bolt can come loose, causing the rear wheels to lock up, which poses a risk of serious injury to the rider.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 11 reports of loss of control, including one rider who suffered a strained leg muscle.

Description: The recall involves select 2006-2008 Polaris "Outlaw" ATVs with Independent Rear Suspension (IRS). The affected models are:

2006 OUTLAW 500 "IRS"
2007 OUTLAW 500 "IRS"
2007 OUTLAW 525 "IRS"
2008 OUTLAW 525 "IRS"

The model name is printed on decals located on either side of the fuel tank.

Sold at: Polaris dealers nationwide from January 2006 through January 2008 for between $6,900 and $7,400.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled ATVs immediately and contact any Polaris ATV dealer to schedule a free repair. Polaris has notified registered consumers directly about this recall.

Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A. Recalls Off-Road Motorcycles

Name of Product: Kawasaki KLX140 Off-road Motorcycles

Distributor: Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A., of Irvine, Calif. They were manufactured in Thailand.

Hazard: One or more of the motorcycle's frame welds could be missing or made incorrectly, allowing the frame to crack or break, posing a risk of serious injury to riders. No injuries or incidents have been reported.

Description: This recall involves 2008 Kawasaki KLX140A8F/B8F off-highway motorcycles. They are designed for the beginner as well as the more advanced rider. They are green in color and have "Kawasaki" identification on the sides of the fuel tank and KLX140 underneath the seat on both sides.

Sold by: Kawasaki motorcycle dealers nationwide between January 2008 and February 2008 for about $2,700.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the off-road motorcycles and contact their authorized Kawasaki dealer to arrange for a free inspection and repair. Consumers with recalled units have been sent direct notification.

Spiderman Water Bottles Sold Exclusively at Sears Recalled

Name of Product: Spiderman Water Bottles

Manufacturer: Fast Forward LLC, of New York, N.Y. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: Screws under the bottle's lid can come loose and fall into the cup, posing a choking hazard to children.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of screws coming loose under the water bottle's lid. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled plastic water bottles have a Spiderman picture on the cup and a Spiderman figure on the screw-on lid. The water bottle is red, white, blue and black and measures 9 inches high.

Sold exclusively at: Sears stores nationwide from July 2007 through August 2007 for about $10.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled water bottles away from children and contact Fast Forward LLC for instructions on returning the water bottles for a full refund.

Polaris Industries Expands Recall of ATVs

Name of Product: Polaris All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs)

Manufacturer: Polaris Industries Inc., of Medina, Minn. They were manufactured in the United States.

Hazard: The ATVs can have defective Electronic Control Modules (ECM) that overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to riders.

Incidents/Injuries: Since the original recall announced in June 2005, Polaris has received 372 additional reports of smoking and/or melted ECMs on the recalled ATVs, and 20 reports of fires, nine of which involved property damage beyond the ATV. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves select 2005 through 2006 model Polaris Sportsman and Scrambler 500 ATVs. The model and serial numbers are printed on a decal attached to the front side of the radiator (Sportsman) or the top of the front cab cover (Scrambler 500). Serial numbers are permanently stamped into the left frame rail behind the left front wheel. The recalled models are listed on the chart here.

Sold at: Polaris dealers nationwide from July 2004 through January 2008 for between $3,800 and $7,900.

Remedy: Consumers should disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the battery when the ATV is not in use. Consumers should contact their local Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair. Registered owners received direct mail notification of this recall.

Trek Recalls Girls Bicycles Due to Frame Failure

Name of Product: Trek MT220 Girls Bicycles

Importer: Trek Bicycle Corp., of Waterloo, Wis. They were manufactured in Taiwan and China.

Hazard: The bicycle's frame can break during use, causing the rider to lose control and suffer injuries.

Incidents/Injuries: Trek has received 13 reports of frames breaking, including four minor injuries.

Description: This recall involves Trek girls' bicycles model MT220 and model years 2005 (light metallic blue), 2006 (metallic silver and metallic purple or pink and pearl white), and 2007 (pink and white pearl or metallic purple). The model name is printed on the frame of the bicycle. Model year 2008 bicycles re not included in this recall.

Sold at: Authorized Trek dealers nationwide from April 2004 through June 2007 for about $300.

Remedy: Consumers should take the recalled bicycle away from children immediately and return it to a Trek dealer for a free replacement MT220 girl's bicycle or a $100 discount on a different size Trek bicycle.

Pacific Cycle Recalls Children's Trailer Bicycles

Name of Product: InStep "Pathfinder," Schwinn "Run About" and Mongoose "Alley Cat" Trailer Bicycles

Manufacturer: Pacific Cycle Inc., of Madison, Wis. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: The coupler connecting the children's trailer bike to the adult's bicycle has welds that can fail, posing a fall hazard to children.

Incidents/Injuries: Pacific Cycle has received one report of the coupler failing, resulting in a fall and abrasions to the rider.

Description: The "Pathfinder," "Run About" and "Alley Cat" are single-wheeled children's bicycles that connect to an adult's bicycle by a coupler. The recall includes model numbers 12-PF250, 13-SC250, 13-SC350 and M5101. The model number is located on the lower seat tube of the frame. The affected couplers have welded plates; bicycles that have couplers with cast parts are not included in this recall.

Sold at: Bicycle stores and retailers nationwide from January 2007 through August 2007 for between $80 and $120.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled wagon away from children and contact Tricam Industries for instructions on how to return the wagon and obtain a refund.

Bell Racing Recalls Collectible Mini Racing Helmets

Name of Product: Collectible Mini Helmets

Importer: Bell Racing Co., of Santa Cruz, Calif. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: Surface paints on the recalled helmets contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents or injuries have beeen reported.

Description: The recalled products are 6-inch-tall, collectible miniature helmets, modeled after helmets worn by several race car drivers. The follow models are included in the recall: Terry Borcheller helmet, part number 2005740; Kurt Busch helmet, part number 2001368; and Vitor Meira helmet, part number 2001381. The part number is located on the product's packaging with the UPC.

Sold at: Home improvement and discount department retailers nationwide from March 2007 through November 2007 for about $50.

Remedy: Consumers should take the recalled helmets away from young children immediately and contact Bell Racing to receive a full refund.

Icon Health & Fitness Recalls Inversion Benches

Name of Products: Nordic Track and Reebok Inversion Benches

Distributor: Icon Health & Fitness Inc., of Logan, Utah. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: The ankle clamp mechanism can release unexpectedly, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Icon has received five reports of injuries to consumers including contusions, lacerations and back pain.

Description: The recalled inversion benches invert a user by securing the ankles in a locking device and rotating the bench. The Nordic Track bench is model number 831.14595.0 and the Reebok bench is model number RBBE1996.0. The model number is located under the seat of the bench.

Sold at: Sporting goods stores nationwide from September 2006 through January 2007 for about $200.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the inversion benches immediately and contact the firm to receive a free repair kit.

"Power Bolt" Pitchbacks Sold at Dick's Sporting Goods Recalled

Name of Product: "Power Bolt" Y-Frame and Ultimate Y-Frame Adjustable Pitchbacks

Importer/Distributor: Dick's Sporting Goods, of Pittsburgh, Pa. They were manufactured in China.

Hazard: The upper portion of the frame can collapse after both locking pins are removed, posing a laceration hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Dick's Sporting Goods has received three reports of finger/hand laceration injuries.

Description: This recall involves the Power Bolt Y-Frame Pitchback and Y-Frame Ultimate Pitchback. The products' Y-shaped metal frames have attached netting that will return a thrown ball to the user. The upper portion of the frame is adjustable to allow a variety of rebound angles.

Sold at: Dick's Sporting Goods retail stores nationwide and on its Web site. The Power Bolt Y-Frame Pitchback was sold from November 2002 to July 2007 for about $70. The Power Bolt Y-Frame Ultimate Pitchback was sold from February 2005 to July 2007 for about $100.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact Dick's Sporting Goods to receive a free repair kit.
