I found this article at parentstages.com. Thought it was interesting.
Can I Really Choose My Baby's Sex?
An article from Americanbaby.com
Get the scoop on gender-selection and whether they really work.
Q. I've heard that there are kits that couples who want to have a baby can buy that can let them choose the child's gender. Do they really work?
A. Medical experts say no. Gender-selection kits, which may contain ovulation tests, digital thermometers, douches, and oral supplements, are based on methods - including changes in diet, timing of intercourse, and monitoring vaginal pH levels - that the manufacturers claim influence gender. GenSelect, one company that distributes such kits for aa cost of $199, says its product has a success rate of up to 96 percent and cites independent studies on its Web site to support its claims. But Randy Morris, MD, a reproductive endocrinologist in Chicago, points out that the kits are not FDA approved, and says the studies aren't large enough to prove the results can be attributed to anythin other than chance. He says that the expensive ones: preimplantation genetic diagnosis (creating embryos outside of the womb and testing them for gender before implantation) and flow cytometry, a neo sperm-sorting technologh. These procedures can cost anywhere form $2,500 to 18,000.

Angela~ Try off your system restore and then shutting down and restarting your pc. Hit F5 over and over as soon as it's turning back on. Then go back and turn your system retore on again, and reatar your pc AGAIN. It should get rid of it, and your anti-virus should work again. Those Trojans are pretty new, and it's hard to come by much help on Google for them...but this is known to work. Let me know...if you need exact step by step directions, i'd be happy to add them to the forum.

Hello eveyone.
I hope everyone is doing great. :) We are finally healthy in our house again and I can get back to a somewhat normal routine and start unpacking this new house. :)
We got a puppy ( Cavalier Prince Charles Spaniel) this week and he is wonderful! Not an accident yet. (knock on wood)
Has anyone gotten the Summer Sisters book yet? I plan to go to the laibrary in the next day or two and get it. :) We start the 15th! DON'T FORGET!!!
AS fro choosing the sex of my child, I would not do it. But I am one who likes to find out the sex before the baby is born. ;)
Well, that is all for now. Have a great weekend!

Now THAT was really weird!!!
The fella' down the street has Alzheimer's Disease and he is all the time wandering off and forgeting how to get back home! I found him in my garage once just standing there looking at hubby's tools hanging on the wall..kind of scared me at first, but then I saw who it was and had him come inside in the air-conditioning and called his wife who was getting pretty frantic looking for him! He was OK and even knew who I was, but just couldn't remember where he was or how to get home! Most of the neighbors watched me grow up since I've lived here all my life, so we had a nice chat till his wife got there.
There's also another lady here who has Alzheimer's real bad and her daughter is about ready to have her committed to a rest home, I think...she gets horribly violent and once knocked her daughter down in the grocery store and began kicking and punching her till someone finally pulled her off! Can you imagine your own mother doing something like that to you? What a horrible feeling that must be! ;-(

Actually, I still enjoy some hair on my men and am not much into the "shaved head" look that is so popular nowdays! Hey..I cannot view your website and want to see your doggies too! Margarita~I caught the service on T.V. when we got home from Maranda's grave. I don't know if they could have custom ordered a MORE beautiful setting for his burial...it really was lovely. Listening to the bagpipes, and seeing Nancy Reagan saying goodbye to her husband's casket for the very last time was hard to watch. I could only hope to have her dignity during such a difficult time.

Yes, Saraj it looks as if she ij about ready to burst. LOL I clicked on your link that says "our puppies have too much fun" and the pics of your cousin came up - she doesn't look much like a puppy ;O) but she IS having fun.
I hope a pet store will take our baby guppies once they are born - I don't want that many!! I just want them long enough to make sure they aren't bite size for other fish, and so dd can choose one (a female so we don't have any more babies) to keep mamma company.
I watched Raegan's service - it was so sad. I think leaving the coffin behind is so hard, because when the coffin is there, and you are with it, it is like you are still with them, you know? Then you have to walk away. Very hard.
I was playing fetch with our puppy tonight and he scraped me with his tooth when he was trying to take the stick away. He is really good about sitting on command, and calms down pretty well in the house, but he is just wild outside. He does sit when I ask him, but as soon as I cock my arm to throw the stick he is up and he will jump up towards the stick - he can jump higher than my head!!

www.teslatheband.com if anyone wants to see. Maybe it's just a bad picture. We're thinking of going to Rock Fest to see them. We went a few years ago and took the kids and my MIL's big house on wheels. It was a lot of fun. The kids have always wanted to go back there. Poison was one of the bands, and they had "their" naked womyn on stage, and I didn't really think the kids wer eold enough to "get it" or even see it. We tried to get then into looking elsewhere. It seems this year's band line up is much cooler.

Ellyn~If memory serves me correctly, Ed Gein was also a ghoul right? He robbed graves, and used the skins, etc. to make things with? Wasn't part of Silence of the Lambs loosely based on him too(the part of making a female body suit out of skins.) Hellllooooo lovely ladies. TGIF. Only one more day of this quarter left, and then finals. Both of my finals are on Tuesday, so I will be all done for 5 days after that. So glad this math class will finally be over - 5 months of the stuff is a bit much. Ugh - I have been feeling a bit "carsick" the last couple of days. I don't know what is up with that, I am fine in the am but in the afternoon I start feeling sick.
Saraj - 22 days. I got a one gallon container to put the momma in, with an air supply and a plant for the babies to hide in and as soon as she has her babies (as soon as I notice them) I will move her back to the tank. Nala's just teasing you ;o). Can't wait to hear what she has. I am almost positive it was Johnny Cash who did the NIN song.
Kerri - my dad has some sort of dimensia, but the doctors aren't really sure what it is . ALzheimers is one option, so is Lews Body Disease as well as a few others. His sister also has some type of dimensia - she has reverted back to some very baby-ish behavior. SHe has a teething ring she chews on, other wise she chews on her fingers and makes them bleed - she will bite and scratch sometimes when we give her a hug. My uncle is a saint for taking care of her at home. My dad has trouble remembering words: he can't read or write at all anymore, and he has a hard time watching a movie and following the story line. He has a hard time following a conversation, because he can't always id the words we are using. Sometimes I wonder if he is remembering our kids' names, beccause I have noticed he will refer to us in pronouns. He got lost in our yard the other day - it's sort of big and there is a stand of trees that blocks our side yard and a small part of our front yard from the rest of our front yard - so he was a little confused. It's hard to lose him bit by bit like this. It is really hard on him, too. He takes an anti-anxiety because he gets panic attacks if he doesn't. High BP can be a cause of dementia, so if there is a family history of high bp then that can be an indication you might have dementia problems. My maternal grandma had alzheimers. I jokingly tell my dh that with a family history like that, I hope he is prepared to take care of me in my old doting age. His family has a lot of cancer, but no senility.
Well, I think that is it for me for now. I will check back in a bit.
Oh, yes, Angela - Wendy's dh is a cutie pie - he has a very cute smile. ;o)

angela - Reportedly, the Leatherface character in Texas Chainsaw Massacre is based loosely on Ed Gein, Wisconsin's most nortorious killer until Jeffrey Dahmer moved into the spotlight. If you read anything about Gein, though, it's very, very loosely based upon him. He did his handiwork in Plainfield, which is my grandfather's hometown. He has some pretty strong opinions about the guy (even though he died in the state mental hospital about 20 years ago) because the victim that Gein basically butchered in the barn was my great-grandfather's cousin. Poppa never refers to him as anything other than "that Gein," with strong emphasis. But he's almost 93, so I guess he can harbor as many bad feelings about the guy as he wants. Gein was also the character that Norman Bates in Psycho is supposed to be based on. Ed also had "mother issues."
We were gone all afternoon for the first half of Girl Scouts Sports Blitz. Today she had swimming and basketball events. Tomorrow morning it's outdoor sports. She had a great time, but girly girl is a tired puppy tonight. I don't think she'll last much beyond her head hitting the pillow!

JMO, Angela, and Holly, I can only imagine the toll it takes on immediate family members. My sister in law is dealing with her mother and the disease. It is very sad. My grandmother in law also died with it. It was very sad. She would come up to her own children/grandchildren and introduce herself again and again. She also became paranoid thinking everyone was talking about her. It was sad, but yet a blessing when she died. My MIL was exhausted from the caregiving required. It is such a sad disease...I hope that stem cell research can be done to find a cure soon!

J-Mo~My grandmother died years ago, before Alzeimer's was diagnosed on a regular basis. She was diagnosed with Dementia/Probable Onset of Alzeimers. Anyhoo~My grandmother was not even five feet tall, and probably never weighed more than a buck & a quarter in her whole life. Near the end, she would get so volatile and aggressive that it would take male orderlies(plural) to physically restrain her from harming herself or others. She was also confused, frustrated, paranoid, and very frightened for most of the last couple years of her life...it was awful!! We really believe that it was a relief when grandmother passed, because who would WANT to live that way? It is a horrible thing to watch anybody go through.

KERRI, my grandfather died from Alzheimer's Disease. it is such a horrible disease. we were VERY blessed that he only had the severe stages for about a year and a half before he died. but it's amazing how drastic his decline was in that time. he probably had alzheimer's for about 7 years, to be honest, but it was in such early stages that it was easy to disregard it and call it "old age". also, my grandpa was kinda deaf, so we really took a lot of his "mistakes" as he couldn't hear the conversations correctly. once he got really bad, he had to be put in a nursing home, and so my parents wouldn't let us go see him anymore because we were too young, in my opinion, for that situation. it was such a horribly depressing home, too. all the patients had the disease and of course at all different stages. my mom went several times to see him, and while sometimes she would come home with cute stories about the patients and grandpa, for the most part it was sad and disheartening. knowing that he only got worse every day was so hard, and for my mom espcially to watch her incredibly smart, talented, GENTLE father turn angry and aggressive and violent was just horrible. it was cute, tho, that he used to mistake my mom for my grandma since she looked so much like her. it terrifies me that alzheimer's disease can be hereditary. very scary.
whew, that was long winded! sorry! i guess it's evident that my husband has left already!!

About Reagan: I haven’t seen any of the funeral coverage, but on the “Today Show” this morning I saw that Gorbechev had been to pay his respects, which I think is truly amazing. A couple of you have talked about Nancy Reagan, and I agree that she’s probably been on quite a roller coaster ride the past few years. Imagine, once your husband was the most powerful man in the world, then you saw his brain deteriorate, now he’s gone. And he was old! And at that age, it’s got to be weird to see people die, because really, it’s right around the corner for you, too. I know, it’s morbid! But I just really feel for old people.
I’ve not seen anyone close to me with Alzheimer’s, but I’ve seen it’s effects. The guy who’s cube is next to mine is always dealing with calls from his sister about their father, who does things like leaves in the middle of the night and walks into people’s houses. My work friend has been trying to get his sister to agree to put him in a home, but the sister is dead set against it, and because of it my poor friend is really going through a rough time. It’s hard to watch.
Also, my mother-in-law takes care of Alzheimer’s patients for a living. She does independent work, meaning she has one lady she takes care of part time right now. There are two other women who split the job with her. She does things like takes her to hair appointments, goes to the mall, helps give her lunch or dinner, etc. My MIL is amazing with this lady. It takes so much patience and creativity to keep the Alzheimer patient attentive, but she’s able to do it, and she enjoys it. The hard part is where the children come in. The old lady has a daughter that lives in town but never spends any time with her mother (hence needing three different caregivers). That’s really the saddest thing.
Kerri, I don’t like the thought of changing our money for a recent event. I guess I’m kind of old-fashioned that way, but I think it would be disrespectful to Hamilton.

I meant to mention this earlier… I saw that steak and cheese reference, so I checked it out, but left it after I saw it had sexual content. I’m at work! It’s happened before… once I was looking up Locks of Love, that hair donation thingy, and got a porn site. Nobody ever mentioned it to me (I’m sure my work keeps track of Web sites we visit) but I would hate to have them watching me because of a mistake.
Anyways, I’ve never heard of that site, and I didn’t see it, but what’s the attraction for a 17-year-old? Is it just soft-core stuff, or what? Oh, and that's the perfect example why some of those porn sites have a bad name. Anybody could innocently type that in, even with no intention of seeing naked people.
Barb
Friday, June 11, 2004 at 13:55:35 (EDT)
LH~ I checked out the steak and cheese site...it was ok. I'd let my oldest check it out, but it's not that interesting. He's more into the jokes. He'd like the some of the funny pix, though. (I smiled at a few) I don't like the porn pop ups that show up....Adam knows I won't let him go to those sites. He can when he's a little older. I just don't think it's healthy for young boys to see scantily clad perfection as if it was a daily occurance. I want him to have healthy and rela relationships. Beauty is important, but so is appreciation. My boys have to grow up appreciating womyn for everything they are.
Do any of you actually enjoy porn? I really hate pron. It's so fake and planned out...and THE SAME over and over again. I like the kind with midgets, or 70 year olds, or obese people. :-O
(Not to be turned on, ofcourse...just because it's more interesting.)
Was that too much info?

I hear dogs can have false labor, which is what I assume Nala had last night. Poor doggie. :-( I got up about 7 times last night, didn't go to sleep until 2 am, so, I'm a bit crabby today. Now we have new friends over today...still 7 kids, though!

I still have ONE and I've let the kid's listen to it, but they say it sounds "oldish". I don't believe in censorship with lyrics in music. The kids like all types of music.
Barb~ LOL! I remember Howard's nasty white booty! Even though it was grody, it was brave, and it caused the ooo's and ahh's he was craving. Eminem is my age (32) so I admire him for hanging onto a young crowd. I'd LOVE to be able to do the young stuff and feel like it was ok.
Wendy~ Ofocurse you can still have a puppy...just so you know, when they come out, they'll be 6 weeks old. ;-) You mentuioned Nine Inch Nails...did you know (Oh, shoot, I can't thin of his name) The famous old country singer who recently passed away redid a Nine Inch Nails song? It sounded erie but cool. (I like the original better)
Well, today is National Mourning Day...no mail. :-(
Anyone see Scary Movie 3? My oldest saw it and said it was the best of the three.
Barb~ I'm glad to hear that you haven't been damaged by seeing scary movies as a child. My new hairdresser was "unschooled" and she's amazing...Ofcourse, I question myself sometimes, (esp. with some people telling me I SHOULD question my child rearing choices) so, it's nice to hear that people raised similar to my kids are fun, sassy, cool, and decent adults. ;-)

hi everyone!
BARB, my daughter isn't in daycare, but i'm thinking a day care provider REALLY deserves some pampering. maybe get her a gift certificate for a massage or some spa treatment? along with a really nice card and perhaps even a picture of Izzy. just a thought!
MELISSA, hang in there babe!
ANGELA, hope dayton's birthday bash was wonderful and that she enjoyed eating her cake AND getting all messy with it!
NATALIE, welcome! i think you'll find this board fun. for the most part we all get along, but of course as with any group of people, some of us do butt heads! but if you stick around i think you'll enjoy it!
WENDY, nice to "see" you! hope you're doing well! hey, i have yet to see any pictures of your babies!!!
my husband is going away today to play in a tournament. he's gone till thursday! it will be harder for me this time to be away from him since i was just away last week! he hasn't left yet but i'm already counting the days till he's back!

About day care providers: I know a couple of you on this board have been day care providers in the past, so maybe you can help me. I want to do something nice to celebrate my daughter’s one-year mark in the home day care she attends. Can you recommend anything? The woman who watches Izzy is really an amazing person, and I’d like to show our appreciation somehow. Have any of you done this before? Any tips? Thanks!

Wendy, I thought “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” was based on a true story, too, but someone (my hubby or my sister or someone) said that it was very loosely based on a true story. Now that I hear you mention it, I’m going to have to do some research.
As far as little kids and scary movies… I grew up on them and that’s probably why I’ve never been scared of them. I saw them all as a kid, and I still like them. Though I remember one thing giving me nightmares: Michael Jackson’s video for “Thriller”! It’s funny that of all the things I watched, a video scared me!
Angela, meatballs already made by 11:30 a.m.? I’m impressed! You sound like my mom… I’d wake up late on Sundays to smell her sauce and meatballs cooking, which is STILL my favorite meal. My mom’s super Italian, and when she comes to visit she cooks me up a freezer-full.

LOL Wendy~Did he tell you I said I enjoyed flirting with him? hee!hee! I asked him if he was cute...and he completely agree that he was! What a donut! =) My DH is pretty good lookin' too, especially in full dress uniform. OOH-LA-LA!!
Well, I was just watching the beginning of President Reagan's funeral, and I have to say Nancy Reagan is one of the classiest women I know. I think we were talking about The Lovely Bones here one day, and how Heaven is whatever YOU imagine it to be....if that is so, President Reagan is probably riding his horse on a huge ranch right now, healthy, lucid, and young again! Good Night Mr. President.

Mornin everyone!
Movies wow, um lets see, I tolerate DH's sci fi crap and he pretty much tolerates my chick flicks. I mean he took me to see 13 going on 30, but he really liked it as did I! I refuse to watch horror movies. I refuse to own them as well. He can rent them all he wants but he has to watch them while I am in bed and not around the girls. He bought Scream (all of them) right after we got married and I told him that I didn't want them in the house. And he said so we dont have any kids yet, well as soon as we had Caetlyn I sold them on Ebay. Dh does not want to see Texas Chainsaw Massacre since it was a true story. He doesn't care for the true story horror flicks just the Hollywood imaginary ones. Anyway
Ang WHATS UP GIRL!!! LOL DH is such a BUTT!!! LOL he told me what he said to you! LOL I died laughing! HE is so vain too! LOL Ah well that is my man! Although he is pretty cute! LOL ask Margarita!! LOL How was Daytons bday? What did she get?
Saraj any puppies yet? I want my pick of the litter, if you will still let me buy one. I saw the pics of your niece. WOW she is cute! But I don't know if I would want my little girl to have that much make up at 12. I was allowed lip gloss in Jr High and then powder my Freshman year and I could wear make up in High school as long as I didn't look like a clown or a whore. LOL My mom took me to get a "natural look" make over and bought me the stuff that I wanted. I know that I don't want my daughters to look that way for a long time. Great picture taking though
Cherokee thinking of you!
Barb I listened to what I wanted although I wasn't into those type of bands. So that wasn't a problem for my parents. Although I do have a funny story about a tape I wanted. I wanted the group Nine Inch Nails on tape for Christmas and so I put it on my wish list. Well my Dad looked at it and he was like what does she need nine inch nails for? She is in Jr High for crying out loud! LMAO my mom was laughing so hard. Then she told him it was a band!! He was shocked! LOL But I plan on making sure that my girls don't listen to that stuff in the house. If they hear it at another persons house or at school I can't prevent that but I can try to observe and censor what she listens to at home.

Barb~LOL! The 2 Live Crew thing reminded me of when I was in 9th grade. My mother destroyed a Quiet Riot tape I was listening too! I was so embarassed because it was not even MY tape! I had to go to school the next day and tell my friend, Mia, that "my mom pulled the tapey part all out of your Quiet Riot tape." I felt like such a dork! I thought Texas Chainsaw Massacre was kind of lame too...Jake brings home videos like that...he has also brought home House of 1000 Corpses, and Wrong Turn...pretty much the same story line. He tolerates my "chick" flicks though, so I watch his scary/lame choices too.=)
Saraj~Any puppieloos yet?
Natalie~LOL! I was reading the PT Board for a while, and stopped when Holly was going on and on about her boyfriend leaving her while pregnant with HIS baby, because he had to much respect for her marriage(which was not to him). Ugh. I figured I could tape Days of our Lives for THAT story line! =) Welcome and lots of belly rubs to you!
I have today off(should be pretty relaxing with all three littles, and Jake is off today too=\) Then, Maranda has a double header tonight, so we are going to have an early dinner. I already have meatballs made, so I just have to cook them up quick this afternoon, and we are ready to go.

Barb, OPPs, I was just taking my good ol' time posting...
There's some pretty lewd music out there these days, maybe no different than what we used to think was "bad" when we were young, but personally, I have heard a few songs with lyrics that are just downright "porngraphic"!
My daughter will be 17 in another couple weeks..she hangs out with a more mature group of girls like herself, who either have already just graduated or are in AP classes and taking college courses..I really don't make those sort of decissions for her anymore, but when she was 10 or 12 I remember it was a big deal at the time!
You cannot be with them 24/7 and they will listen to what they want when your not around..I think it is best just to let them know what you approve of and what you don't. I guess what I'm trying to say is that for instance..my daughter will listen to that sort of music with her friends, but if her grandparents come around, she turns it off...we also have a preacher who lives next door, so she has learned to be respectful with the volumn as well. Did any of that make sense? {LOL!}..I need more coffee!! :=)

Speaking of Eminem… I heard that he mooned the crowd at the MTV movie awards last night and they censored it. All I have to say about Eminem is yawn! He’s so boring. Even the mooning is old… anyone remember Howard Sterns nasty ass on display at one of those MTV award shows years ago? Celebrities must be running out of material.
You bring up a good point about music, Melissa. How do you moms handle it? The only time my parents stepped in with music for me was in eighth grade when they found out I had a 2 Live Crew tape and they burned it. Remember that band? They were really bad, talking about sex and swearing. I don’t even remember who I taped it from, or why, really, but they found it and burned it on the same day I graduated from eighth grade. I remember being so embarrassed about the whole thing… that my parents would think less of me. Thankfully, we all got over it quickly.
I’m not big into censorship, but I do think that parents need to be involved sometimes (as in my story above). I like to think that my daughter will make good choices (I know I didn’t, but that was obviously just a phase) and I’ll be able to let her choose her own music, but I wonder if when I’m faced with it, I’ll think differently by then. I can honestly say I probably wouldn’t deny my daughter a type of music, but if I heard bad language and bad treatment (calling women “bitches” and so forth) I’d probably have to say something. At the same time, though, she could learn from it… hear the songs and think for herself that it’s stupid. I don’t know, I’m torn. I’m not at that spot in life yet. Any input from you more experienced moms?

LH~ I did get samples of the Migranal and I used one yesterday when I got home and I have to say that I am feeling a little better than yesterday...maybe this stuff with do the trick. I guess I just have to wait and see. I do have trigger points done while I am at the chiropractor. I go back to see the neurologist in a month so if I am still having problems then I will definately ask about the massages. Wouldn't that be nice?
SEA~Your niece is pretty. I can't believe she is only 12...from the way she was "made up" she look much older. TPing sounds harmless enough. You are definately in a tough spot with the kids and music. I am glad I don't have to make those decisions yet. I am not so sure I would be allowing my kids to listen to Eminem. While I like it ok some of the time I am not sure that I would want a 12 year old girl and the others to be listening to it...Just My Opinion though. Sounds like yall had a good time.

Good morning, everyone. I thought Friday would never get here. I don’t have a lot planned for the weekend, which is perfect for my mood. Hopefully I’ll take my little mentee to see Harry Potter tomorrow. We missed it last week because her mom’s car was broken and I didn’t get to see her. Other than that, I’ll probably take my daughter swimming again, and do housework and yard work. More than anything, I’m looking forward to a weekend of relaxation!
LH, I watched “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” a few weeks ago. I like scary movies, but that one was just lame. I hate dark movies… by “dark” I mean where you can’t even really tell what’s going on because it’s so dark. The only part that scared me was when the killer was wearing the face of Jessica Biel’s boyfriend. Gross!
SEA, how’s the mama dog today? I guessed six pups would pop out today… all tan, so is today the big day?

I'm being a niteowl tonight {what's new, LOL!} and the daughter has some g/f's over and we just finished watching "Texas Chainsaw Massacre"! ACKK! What a horrible movie..so bloody!! So now they're watching cartoons {LOL!} to get the movie off their minds before bed! Hehe!
"SEA", my house has been about like yours most of the night, minus the T.P.ing, although I did catch them looking at Steak and Cheese.com earlier..the little waskals! LOL!
Melissa, I tried the "Migranal" too, but just couldn't take it...I HATE putting anything up my nose {YUK!} but mostly it made me dizzy, so the doctor just took me off it. ALWAYS ask for samples of anything new they give you as they usually have them, but never remember to offer them and that way you won't get stuck with something you cannot take that you have spent good money for!
Magnesium and B2, B3 are good and also something called "Feverfew" which has a calming effect...the "Fish Oil" vitamins are supposed to be wonderful for migraines as well, but I couldn't take those either {Fishy burps! EWWWWW!!!} Defantely ask your doc about any of these! Also, massage and trigger point massage work wonders {I get them for my TMJ}..see if your doc can "prescribe" them and sometimes the ins.co. will honor that!
Hiya "Princess" Margarita!! LOL!

Saraj - the pictures look nice. Your niece is very pretty. I hate to see 12 yr olds portrayed as older, because I am dissapointed in the need to have our kids grow up so fast, but that is not a reflection on the quality of photos you took, or your niece.
You're waiting for your dog... I am waiting for dd's fish. I think she is going to have HER babies anytime so I seperated her from the tank so that I can remove her from her fry right away... they are only fish, I know, but I hate to see them wasted.

It's almost 11pm here.
Yes, the house is crazy. Hubby just got home and he reuqested more quiet. I'm just in a good mood, so it's all very very tolerable. I have many times where I yell about the noise, too~but most of the time, it's embraced.
Yeah, they're off TPing. You're good! Why not egging? (which is what they WANTED to do, but is too .........gooey and harder to clean up.) They promised to stick to houses they knew. Heck, I just did it myself a few weeks ago! (Grow up, hey??)
So what time does your daughter go to sleep? Are you still working ?

SEA - that one is hard for me. I keep wanting to type Saraj... why did you have to go and cahnge your sn?? ;o)
It is not quite 9 here - although I am often up late - don't get to start my homework seriously until after dd goes to sleep, and then I also indulge in my time, and time with dh.
My guess is that your kids are TPing. ANy where close? That is something naughty but innocent.
Your house sounds crazy. Lots of noise gets me really grouchy anymore - for instance dh always has the TV turned up way too loud and it makes me snappy before I even realize why it is that I feel grouchy. That is one good reason I think I am leaning more towards 5th through HS grades to teach - can you imagine me in a k-4th grade class? Those kids are much more likely to get noisy. IMO anyhow - they just haven't learned all about social skills yet.

Hey there.
I am taking a mental break from my math homework. I was playing with dd, and she has me wearing her "princess crown" that she got for her birthday - it has faux feathers and rhinestones on it, as well as lights that flash. It's about 3 sizes too small for me, so you should get a nice picture of what it looks like ;oP.
She got this really cool tape recorder made by Fisher Price for her birthday - you can also use it as a kareoke machine. It has a microphone on it, and you can record yourself talking or singing on it. It has several different settings to make your voice change - a rabbit, a monster, an alien, a robot. We were just singing in it - I was singing the song "fever" because I have sort of a low voice, and it is one that I can sing in my range. LOL I was singing it using the rabbit voice - very weird. ANyhow, dd decided to sing, and guess what she was singing? "I got a fever" LOL. Well, it is time to get her little rear in bed, and then I have to get back to homework. I have a math test tomorrow. We are prety much done in music now, other than the final. We are doing a very brief history of music right now, as a precurser for music appreciation, which I have already taken. We did the Baroque period today. Yesterday it was the Renaissance. It's fun stuff - I love history.
Have a great night. Time to jammy the girl, and brush teeth and read whatever is tonight's reading selection.
Seeya!

Well nerologist update for those TRYING to keep up with my medical drama saga...so she said to stop the Naproxen since it was upsetting my tummy so bad and she is starting me on a nasal spray called Migranal which I am sure will cost a fortune at the pharmacy, but if it works it will be worth it. She said she can tell that the Depakote has me really hyper (weird, I didn't notice until earlier today when my hands were shaking as I am trying to drink a bottled water). So that is about it for now....she wants to see me in a month.

Kerri - I'm sure our weather is pretty similar. You're at Northwestern, aren't you? Go, Big 10! That's only a couple of hours south of here.
Third grade girl will have her second year of a summer babysitter. For the first six years, my husband and I worked opposite shifts so that she didn't have to go to daycare. Daddy took care of her during the day, and Mama had her at night. After she went to school full days, he changed his schedule so that he took her to school and was home earlier at night. That was dandy until summer rolled around and girly-girl wasn't in school anymore.
Last year, we hired a 16-year-old who was terrific with her. They biked, swam, went to movies, painted their nails... all the girly stuff. She was a great babysitter. This year, though, she has a full-time job... but she referred a friend who just finished her freshman year of high school. I'm pretty sure they'll do most of the same stuff.
I've also enrolled her in six different Girl Scout events over the summer (we did Star Gazing last Friday night), and she's enrolled in the summer reading events and the play at the library this summer. Then add in the 3rd grade software that she's already started. It's introducing geography and the solar system, which is why I think she was so hopped up to get started today. I think we're pretty lucky that she's so interested in learning. That means we don't argue much about homework -- unless it's (and I quote), "Icky old math!" She likes fractions, multiplication and division, but hates regular addition and subtraction. Maybe we can overcome that before school starts again.
Oops. I'd better go. I have to pick up the dog at 2:30. Later.

Hi all. Hope your days are going well. I had to pick my baby up from the last days of school. A few tears welled up. Last day of second grade. Last day at the elementary building (next year it's the intermediate building). Last day with a terrific teacher. She had to have a picture taken in front of the elementary sign for her scrapbook. She came right home and started working on the 3rd grade summer software program. She's growing up TOO FAST.
Speaking of emotional days, how are you angela? Happy Birthday to Dayton Faith!
Weather changed overnight here. Yesterday was 84 and humid. Today is 59 and alternating between drizzle and outright rain. It's that cold kind of rain that gives you goosebumps when it hits your skin. The garden is loving it, though.
I'd better check on my Sweetie Pete to see what she's up to. Then it will be time to pick up the dog from his vet/groomer appointment. Vacuuming will be easier after this trip.

i'm researching them online, but was wondering if any of you had been at these hotels? i think so often it's best to get your info from someone who's stayed there! thanks!

SEA~Thanks for the advice on the natural remedy stuff. I will check with my neurologist about that. And yes, 25 days in pain...I don't know what hell is like but I am sure it is close to this.
Angela~ Oddly enough I have been going to the chiropractor 3 times a week for the past 13 or 14 weeks. I do have some back issues and they are getting them straightened out. I know I must sound like a hypochondriac (sp?) with all my aches and pains.
Nancy~ It sure was nice to meet you...thanks for all your migraine advice.

Melissa~Actually, Acupuncture reminded me of something.....was getting an adjustment at the chiropractor helpful to you at all? I always wonder at how GREAT I feel after going to the chiropractor. Unfortunately our insurance does not cover it, so I can't afford ongoing chiropractic care, but an occasional adjustment can be benificial to all parts of your body, not just your spine.
Nancy~Nice meeting you...take care.

Thanks to everyone for the advice yesterday about my son. I don't think I will be visiting this board anymore. I wish everyone the best in life. Good-Bye.

25 days in pain...that must be hell. I'm sure you've tried everything. Have you been able to check out any migrane info online? Are you able to eat? Does the pain go from severe to less severe, or is it always the same?
Can you try acupuncture? Do you use analgesic tablets?
I haven't been following the boards enough to really know what's going on. Have you been eating anything different? (i've heard a little about food allergies causing severe migranes.
What if it's a nerve disorder? Would that show up on the MRI?
I just looked in my Natural Remedy book.
They suggest:
Magnesium 250-400 mg 3x's per day
Vitamin B6 25 mg 3x's per day
5-HTP 100-200 mg 3x's per day
They also say to eliminate chocolate, citrus fruits, and shell fish. And to add more garlic, onion, and fish oils.
Again, I'm sure you've tried a lot of things. Just thought I'd offer some things and hope they are fresh and maybe your doc will say go ahead and try it!

Melissa~My doctor told me that you have to take the Naproxin 7-10 days before it fully gets in you system and starts working. I know that's no condolence to you. It wasn't to me either when my back hurt so bad I couldn't move.

SEA~ Yes, vicodin will mask the pain of a migraine. But unfortunately there is very little known about the "cause" of a migraine. Once they rule abnormalities in the MRI (which they have done for me) it is all about treating and preventing. The current medication is treating but not getting rid of the headache in full and since I have now had a headache for 25 days I don't think it is doing much in the way of preventing anything. After 25 days of constant pain I am pretty much at the point where I don't really care what has to be done to stop the pain it just needs to stop - I don't care if all they can do is mask the pain - enough is enough ya know?!

This person attempted to get clean a few times. I didn't see it as a personal choice, but as a choice made for someone else. (so, ofcourse it failed) I attended a few AA meetings with AND without this person. Sadly, with limited income and insurance, there are very few decent places to go for treatment. The place this person went last time was very prison like. This person also has a pretty large network of friends who supply the drugs when this person runs out. (Guess where they met? THE TREATMENT CENTER!!) Ugh.
Well, I have decided it's a lifelong addiction, and I try my hardest not enable this person. (That's hard, because when the drugs are such a huge part of a life, not much you do does NOT revolve around them)
:-(
I hope you're right about Nala, Angela!
My 11 year old called this am (he's visiting my mom) and said he had a dream Nala had her pups last night. All signs are pointing to VERY SOON. I wish she'd lose her appetite...that'd be the beginning! Yeah, sure, I'm all excited and want the pups here but I forget all of the WORK! However, I'm losing a lot of sleep getting up and checking on Nala every few hours. (not by concience choice)
We're off to pick up my cousin and then to my friend's house...her son graduated today.
Does anyone have a freeze watch? I'd like a BREAK!

Saraj~Actually, many addictions DO start *innocently* enough. None of my clients woke up one day and decided *hey, I would like to be a junkie/drunk today*. But, as you have probably seen with your friend, once that *monkey* is on an addicts back, it is TOUGH to shake it. Getting clean is really an internal choice...nobody else can MAKE an addict begin recovery. They might stop using for a period of time, but they will usually continue to relapse until they reach the personal level which forces them to begin to heal. It's a tough road for sure.

>Why don't you do yourself a favor and try to chill out abit! Sheesh, that can't be good on the ol' BP!

LH~Thanks for the concern, but no worries with my BP at all...if anything, it is sometimes a bit low, but that has always been normal for me. I don't smoke, nor drink, and I eat a balanced diet. Don't you have enough of your OWN health issues...real and imagined...to obsess about, and drive your family, and maybe one friend, crazy with?

Someone very very close to me has been struggling with a prescription drug addiction for over 9 years. It's a big deal, and it rules this person's life. I've tried tough love and being there. I like the being there part better, because with tough love, this person rarely comes around. :-(
The addiction started after a major surgery gone wrong. Then there were illegal scripts being written, fines and probation, over 40 different doctors, false names, and ER visits. And yes, there is such a thing as "phantom" pain if the user of these meds tried to quit.
It's easy to get addicted if you're problems are life long or close to it.
I had a friend who had frequent severe migranes. She laid in the sun when hers started.
Melissa~ Wouldn't Vicodin only mask the pain ? I would want something to cure the pain...or the cause? I don't know a lot about migranes other than that they can be life altering. I feel for you, girl. I'm sending positive vibes your way.

LH~ Thanks. I think that there are Pain Management Clinic in the area but I thought it would only be "fair" to give the neurologist a fair shake. I will talk to her today about the Naproxen. I have taken Darvocet and Vicoden (not at the same time LOL) for migraines before and it did seem to work. However, when I mentioned it to the neurologist she quickly changed the subject. I guess like you said she doesn't want to get someone "addicted" to the pain meds. I have heard that after extended use of narcotic pain meds you can get "rebound" headaches when you stop taking the pain meds. I wonder if that is why she didn't want to go that route. I don't know really....but you are right I am the one who has to suffer with the headaches not her. I guess I will talk to her about all of this at my appointment this afternoon.

Saraj~Maybe the weather will send Miss Nala into labor. Seriously, when the weather is bad(low barometric pressure) don't labor and delivery intakes rise at hospitals? It would stand to reason the same would maybe hold true in the animal world. Hey! I guessed Thursday night or early Friday morning I think....hang in there a few more hours Nala! LOL!

Margarita~ I didn't go to Catholic schools thinking I would believe more. My mom sent me because the public schools in Milwaukee were very icky. We also didn't have enough money to buy me a bunch of nice clothes, and since the Catholic schools had uniforms, that solved a big problem. I began in these Catholic schools thinking there MAY be a god and I was certain I'd have numerous unanswered questions answered during one of the many times I sat in morning church. There were often religious lectures, most of which I sat through with open ears and an open mind. However, when I asked my questions, I never got answers. I don't recall any of my exact questions, but I assure you they were deep. Attending those schools (I attended three seperate catholic schools in Miwaukee) actually started me in the direction I am at now as far as what I believe in. I don't regret those experiences at all. My family and I are very content in how we live. I like where I'm at. We live next to a church. The last pastor (Father Eric) was a great friend of ours. He and I often talked about religion, sex, and families. He wanted us to be a part of his church, but soon he realized we were set and we we excepted eachother as we were. He invited us over for an amazing dinner one night. (some of it catered!) It was amazing! SO amazing that I thought he had a hidden agenda. I thought he was going to go into how important going to church was, and etc. etc....but not one word of that was mentioned. He was very respectful. He has since relocated. We sure miss him! My 5 year old emails him on occasion...they are VERY close! I'm 32, and I'm set as far as beliefs go. I've seen and been through a lot and this is where I'm happy. :-) Thanks for asking!
Laine~ :-)! I loved your post. It's nice to hear that kind of reassurance once in awhile. I hope you stick around here. I know this can be a nice place 100% of the time!
Angela~ I don't think it's fair that you accuse Laine, Jennie, or LH for starting trouble. I've seen EVERY regular say something harsh at SOME point. If I accused everyone who stuck up for you as being a trouble maker, well, then there would be no room for any other topic.
It's POURING here! I hope it doesn't rain Saturday. :-(
Still no puppies. It's hard not to worry sometimes. I was almost 44 weeks when I gave birth to my youngest...how could a dog "holding on" worry me? She's due on Sunday. It's just that she is SOOO HUGE. It's insane!

Melissa..Do you have any Pain Management clinics in your area? It has been my experience that when you are in alot of pain, it takes several different "specialists" working in unison to get you the healthcare and pain control you need and deserve!
The Naproxen is a NSAID and nothing but "high powered Aleve"...Doctors love to prescribe this so that they won't have to feel guilty about possibly making someone addicted to pain medication, when in all truths, it is you, the patient who is suffering!
As a migraine sufferer, the only thing that has ever even touched my pain is something from the Opiods class {Vicoden, Vicoprofen, Norco, etc}, a tried and true medication and not one of the newer-type drugs that the doctors are pushing! {I also had a horrible reaction to one called "Neurontin"!!}
If the Naproxen isn't working for you {no surprise there!} I would seriously consider asking your doctor to give you something stronger or about refering you into Pain mgmt! No one should be denied adequate pain control for any reason and I'm sorry you are going through this! TC!

Speaking about books, have I mentioned the author David Sedaris to you guys? He is this hilarious writer who also reads his stories on NPR, and he just came out with a new book this month. This book is not new stories; they’re stories that were printed in various magazines, but they’re still hilarious. I highly recommend all his books. My favorite are his stories about his family… they’ll have you rolling.
Here’s an excerpt from the new book:

J-MO~LOL! Of course we will take tons of pictures!! We ordered her an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen with lots of pretty butterflies on it! Should be fun.
Actually, Jake called at 8:41 this morning, which is when Dayton was born, and said exactly one year ago the world became a better place because Dayton was born into it. Is that not just so sweet!? Jake is a *guys guy* and I was surprised he would think of something so corny and sweet at the same time. LOL!
