UGGGH! Marie! What a lousy thing to hit you out of left field. According to the Family Leave Act (one of the few decent things Clinton did, IMHO)Your job has to hold our position for 90 days. Has it been 90 days. I don't remember reading when you officially went on maternity leave. I'm so sorry! Check out the website for The Family Leave Act...maybe it will give you some leverage!

Thanks Ellyn, I guess I do have to leave this in the Union's hands.
I am just in awe over this! I was not expecting this at all.
( and here I was worrying over what to do for childcare for Baby Ryan )

Angela~ Thanks, Yes I do hope atleast I can get my medical covered. That was the main reason I was returing.
I do have it in writing that I was granted my leave..and I also have it in writing that I was planning on returning in Sept. I hope this pans out some how.
Thanks again

Marie -

That really stinks. But if you're a union-represented employee with nine years of seniority, the union's collective bargaining unit must have some kind of clause regarding this situation. You were right to call your union rep into this.

Ellyn
Friday, June 25, 2004 at 16:52:24 (EDT)

Marie~That sucks. My understanding has been that if you are on a pre-scheduled maternity leave of abscence, which duration was agreed to by your supervisor, boss, etc...then you cannot be released from your job within that agreed leave time. I know it is mandatory that you get six weeks, but if it is agreed upon that you will be given a longer leave(preferably in writing) you cannot be dismissed. If you are on a year to year contract though, I am not sure how it works. Hopefully your union can get you insurance coverage while the district's action is being appealed.

Hi Everyone,
I received some pretty awful news yesterday...
I was supposed to be returning to work this fall in Sept. ( I work as an Asst. in a pre-school class for the public school district for the past 9yrs.) Well, my boss (our school principal) called me yesterday and told me that she has decided that she is not re-hiring me. ( I have been on maternity leave since the end of February, unpaid just using my sick time )
But...to top it off she has hired someone new to the district to replace me!! She would not give me a reason why she chose to do this. But we have butted heads together in the past, and she does have her favorites and her not so favorites. ( guess what one I am )
I am so hurt and also pi$$ed!
Baby Ryan and I will have no medical insurance as of Sept.!!!! ( DH is retired and is still covered under his x-wife's policy )
I did contact my union rep. and explained what she did and I guess they are going to fight it.
Does anyone know anything about the laws regarding maternity leave? or any helpful ideas what I should do??
Sorry to vent. But I really need some advice.

Holly,

I use PremsynPMS. It works great.
And I do remember hearing the the BIG "O" is a good source of relief as well.
Always a hot shower or bath.
Good Luck

Anyone want to talk about Summer Sisters yet?????

Holly, you may want to try hot tea. Hot beverages have helped me in the past. Also, for some reason, eating a large meal helps me. Ironically enough, I was just discussing cramps with my co-workers at a meeting this morning because my manager was suffering (this was before the men entered the room). Hope you feel better soon!

Holly~According to Doctor Gupta(sp) and CNN, and what is coming up is no joke at all....the best cure for menstrual cramps is the *Big O*. Seriously!!=0) I use Women's Tylenol, and that helps a LOT with menstrual symptoms. Beware though, they have a diuretic in them, so you pee a lot(helps with bloating though!)=)

Good Morning all. Does anyone know of a good cure for major menstral cramps besides a heating pad and the fetal position? I've tried getting up and moving around and stretching, sometimes that helps, but not today. If I wasn't here alone with my kids I would just take something that would knock me out for awhile!!!!

Margarita :) Gotcha. Yes, we do have to sign those. They are called something different, I cant remember now. But yes, we had to sign those in Elementary school, as the kids have Computer class starting in Kindergarten.

Friday, June 25, 2004 at 11:51:27 (EDT)

Hi guys, no time for ps right now but wanted to clarify what I was asking about ;o).

Yes, Angela, the AUP for the computer lab.

Lyne - it is an agreement that a minor's parent or gardian sign (or an 18 + yr old signs for themselves) saying that they have seen and agree to comply to the use guidelines set forth by the school district. It contains a description of what is appropriate and what is not. Although the parent signs it, ultimately the teacher is still responsible for what is viewed in the classroom - the policy gives the teacher the right to interrupt a student's inappropriate use. DOes that sound familiar? If your child does not use the internet as school, you may not have had to sign one (some schools have the intructor use the internet and then display the webpage on a large screen - no AUP is needed for that since the instructor is in control).
Gotta run - have a ton of errands to runt his morning and only a few hours to run them. Be back later whan I can visit ;o)

Speaking of Michael Moore, I saw something on the news about the opening of that movie in NYC, and they were interviewing famous people who were there. Spike Lee said something that I think is right-on. He said something like, “The movie itself gets people talking about these issues, which is the most important thing.” I have to agree. While I think Moore makes his movies with a political agenda, I think he brings up good topics, and all the hype around him and his movies can do good. I know this is way off topic.

Barb
Friday, June 25, 2004 at 10:47:35 (EDT)

I didn’t take it personally, Kerri. I know how you feel about Moore. More than anything, all this talk about the “9/11” movie has piqued my interest in it. His other movie, “Bowling for Columbine”, I didn’t even see until it was on video.

Good morning everyone!

Dh and I saw the movie "WHITE CHICKS" last night. We thought it was going to be really stupid, but we both laughed our @sses off! We definitely will buy the DVD! I also wanted to see "The Terminal" with Tom Hanks, but we missed it by 15 minutes. :(
I refuse to see "F. 9/11", my money would be better spent flushed down the toilet.

LH-glad you are feeling better!

Cherokee-how did the job thing go?

Friday, June 25, 2004 at 10:30:12 (EDT)

Good morning, everyone. I’m so glad it’s Friday! My mother-in-law is flying in tonight, and my father-in-law has been here for a week (watching Isabelle while her nanny’s on vacation). Tomorrow we’re going to a carnival at the hockey arena, then probably shopping (the money burns a hole in my in-laws pocket when they’re around Izzy). My hubby and I hope to catch a movie this weekend (we LOVE having in-house babysitters!). I want to see “Fahrenheit 9/11” but he doesn’t seem to want to, and since I picked last time, it’s his turn.

We watched “Murder in the First” last night. I think it’s an older movie… it’s a shocking story based on a true story about a prisoner in Alcatrez who was left in solitary confinement for more than three years. [This is worth sharing for you Harry fans — just now I wrote “Azkaban” instead of “Alcatrez” the first time. te he] I’m not sure how much of it was true. Kevin Bacon is the prisoner, and I was quite impressed with him in this movie. I never really put much thought into him before, but he did an excellent job in this. It also had Christian Slater, one of my teen loves.

Morning Ladies~

Andy Garcia, :0) Very hunky, in a soft, sensitive kinda way. I loved When a Man Loves a Woman as well, tho Meg Ryan kinda irritates me. She acts the same in every movie. I liked him in Black Rain (think it was called that) with Michael Douglas. Older movie. He has that whole Latino thing going on. Although, many people who meet my Dh say "Hey...he looks like an older version of that guy from Law and Order, Benjamin Bratt". Which makes me laugh too, because he totally does. You know, marriages always have their ups and downs, but it is a shoe-in for me to say, I will always be deliriously physically attracted to my man. We have been together for 5 years and he still makes my heart flutter and knees weak LOL..which is a drag when I am angry with him. hehe. ;)

Well I am off. Need to hop in the shower. The boys have their Kid Olympics today where they showcase everything they have been learning at camp with their swim teams and diving techniques. Of course, this is Arizona, so the pool is outdoors (it is the Aquatic Complex at Arizona State University). But since it is in the morning, it should only be aroun 100F :/

My 12 year old made it to the high board, and he told me, "I'm doing pretty good with somersault and twist, but about 1 meter before I hit the water, it's like everything falls apart and I just crash" LOL I told him that is why we practice. I'm thrilled that he went to the higher meter boards. He is convinced he is afraid of heights, so that was big for him. Next year he will be old enough for the 12 meter so we will where it goes for him.

We are driving up to Pinetop tomorrow to pick up Madison. I missed my baby girl! She is having fun being spoiled, and doesn't want to come home yet "one more day mom?" My mom has a golf tournemant Monday with her foursome though.

Melissa~have you been trying the yoga? How are you feeling today?

Hope everyone has a great day. Happy Friday!

Ellyn~THAT was it! It was a promo for a new TV program....I don't care if the show packs sand, I will watch it just to see *my boy*. He has this whole bad boy aura about him, and those EYES....*sigh*. =)

Margarita~Are you talking about the Acceptable Use Policies for using the computer lab?

Well, I am off today...Mason has his pre-school check-up, and Dayton has her 12 month well baby check-up at the doctor's office. It should be a real treat keeping all three kids on their square at the office. Oiy! TC all.

Margarita & Wendy ~ Thanks for the bday wishes.

LH ~ I am feeling somewhat better today...still a slight headache, but I am going to take my meds quick and then pray that it won't get any worse.

Lyne ~ We rented 50 First Dates last weekend, dh and I both LOVED it. Of course when the movie was over I was angry (LOL) at dh - saying "Why don't you try to make me fall in love with you every day?" LOL - But I guess turnabout it fair play on that one! LOL

angela - That's Neal McDonough. He's also going to be in a new show on TV this fall. It's called Medical Investigation and is supposed to be based on real cases. We saw part of an ad for it last night. It's on NBC, so they must know they had a hot commodity in him.

We saw 50 First Dates at the second-run cheap theater three weeks ago when the lines were too long at Shrek2. Even Larry -- who hoped to take a snooze during the movie -- thought it was good.

Angela - yeah, Andy Garcia makes my heart beat a little faster, too.

Hey, do any of you parents of school age children remember signing an acceptable use procedures and guidelines agreement for your child? If so, how complicated was it? I am doing a little compare/contrast paper on these guidelines using schools policies from 5 different schools, in 5 different states. I found plenty of policies online, but was just curious what you, as parents, felt about the ones you signed.

Margarita~I watched Mystic River...very good! I read the book first, and it is excellent! Under The Tuscan Sun is a really nice movie too. We watched Secret Window on Wednesday night, which was good, and last night we watched 50 First Dates...very cute! I watched a terrific *girlfriend* movie tonight, and was pleasantly surprised by how GOOD it WAS....Nora's Hair Salon.

Ellyn~What is the name of that totally delicious man who used to play the DA on Boomtown? Dean McDonough, or something? I just saw a preview for a movie coming out that he is in...he may replace Andy Garcia(I wanted to HUG him in When A Man Loves a Woman!) in the *be still my heart* category for me. =)

Margarita
I loved both movies. I own Under the Tuscan Sun and rented Mystic River.

Mystic River is a drama that made me cry

Under the Tuscan Sun is a great comedy. No crying involved. I do have to say though that Sean Penn totally deserved the Oscar as did Tim Robbins. Both EXELLENT rolls! WOW what a movie! its fantastic. although I had to watch another movie to "cleanse my palet" before bed. If that makes sense. Enjoy and let me know how you like them

Jen the book is FANTASTIC!!! I LOVE IT!!! We will talk about it

HAS ANYONE ELSE BEEN READING IT?

Ok I am tired. Long story. talk to you all later

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELISSA!!!

Margarita~I haven't seen Under The Tuscan Sun, but we did watch Mystic River last weekend. I thought Sean Penn was just awesome in Mystic River. You know, it is funny to have watched him grow as an actor. Does anyone out there remember Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgement High? What a trip! How about that movie Bad Boys?

Hi guys. I am waiting for dh to get back from the store to put dd down (usually that is their special time together every night - he reads her stories after he puts her pjs on and brushes her teeth, etc then right before the official bedtime I sing "hush little baby" to her and we give her kisses. LOL my hush little baby is usually a little improved. ANyhow, thought I would drop in and see whats shaking before I start some homework and maybe watch a movie later - we have "Under the Tuscan Sun" and "Mystic River." No school tomorrow, so I can stay up a little late ;o). Dh, dd and I are going to a ball game tomorrow night :o) I am looking forward to it. I have a grad luncheon to go to for my neice and nephew who are graduating jr high and elementary, respectively and my nephew is receiving an academic award from Gov. Locke tomorrow at school (they go yr round and tomorrow is the last day for them). And fil needs me to help him with his computer. And then we are going to Seattle for the game!

SEA - yes, they eat flake food right away but you have to crumble it up really fine to feed them - they can also eat a paste made from hardboiled egg yolk and then rinsed into the tank in very tiny amounts. I got dd a new 10 gallon tank today and moved all the adult fish into it - I have 6 seemingly healthy, active guppy fry - I first noticed 5 but who knows how many got eaten before I saw them :(. Did you get my final choice on the puppy name? Has he been sold yet?

Melissa - happy birthday girlie. Have a great one.

UGGGGHHH sorry, fil is on phone wanting help with his computer over the phone - he is a helpless pc user - he is afraid to try anything to resolve any problems. I have to install anti-adware into his pc and also just do a system clean up on his - too bad I like the guy so much or I would just say no!!

Later.

I read a few articles also about that juror. One of them said he said something to the effect of he "didn't see anything that convinced him Peterson was guilty". Well, who knows WHAT he said exactly. I only believe a "nth" of what I hear/see in the media anyway. If he did say something to that effect...WHAT AN IDIOT...the trial is barely underway. On court TV, they were saying the prosecution has only presented something like a 3rd of the evidence so far. For someone to say that in the fledgling trial stage, is really terribly ignorant. And dangerous! Prosecutors always look at one consistent thing. Motive and Means. And boy howdy... Peterson had both! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the evidence brought out.

SEA
Thursday, June 24, 2004 at 15:34:51 (EDT)

Lyne -

In the interview I read with the juror, he said he didn't say that Scott didn't do it. He said there were photographers taking a picture of Laci's brother and the juror was in the shot. He claims to have told the brother that he (the juror) was ruining the shot and said, "You're not going to be on the news tonight." The cameraman who overheard said the juror had said, "You're going to lose tonight." He blames the media for blowing it out of proportion and not reporting what he actually said.

Kerri...after I re-read my post it looked like I said "7", but yes, I had a total of "6" MCs spread out over the course of 5-6 years...the only thing that got me through it was my faith...and possibly because I am so stubborn as my mother says...that probably was TMI so I apologise for bringing it up.

Melissa~Feliz Cumpleanos mi amiga bonita! I hope for you that it is pain-free with lots of presents! :0)

Barb~I didn't see what you were talking about, but I heard it on the news. I'm not suprised. Many people in high adrenaline jobs lose control. It makes me ill seeing that. They discredit the profession and those that also serve in that profession. years ago, I rode with a paramedic who was taking morphine out of our drug box on our truck. I talked to him about it several times. Because if we went on a call with a patient who had a bad break, while the we have the drugs on the truck, we still have to call the doc at the receiving hospital for approval. But, I never saw him push the drug. And, when we got to the hospital (this happened several times over the course of about 2 months) when we gave report, he would tell them he pushed the morphine, yet the patient complained of having no pain relief. It was cruel and horrible, then the patient would have to wait for more drugs longer at the hospital, because the stupid man had told the docs he had already pushed it. After I confronted him about it, it stopped for a while, and then I started noticing the trend. I told him if he didn't account for what he was doing, I was going to have to go to the batallion chief about it. It is abusive to patients to withhold pain meds when they have had a wreck and have an open femur fracture or whatever. I finally was forced to turn his ass in. It was investigated, I felt bad for him, but he was thieving drugs literally from the veins of patients in need. That is deplorable. Not everyone in the rescue profession is honorable.

Angela~Did you know Rob was in the SeaBees while in the Navy? Small world! (well, not really, ;) but you know what I mean!)

Well gotta run....hope everyone has a great day. I have an interview this am so I'll check back later!

Did anyone see that footage of the cops beating the man in Los Angeles? Oh, my. They showed it on the “Today” show this morning. The guy ran, but eventually gave up and got on the ground with has hands on his head. One officer jumped on him to secure him. Then another office ran up to help. Then the third officer ran up, kicked the guy, pulled out his flashlight and started beating him, and from the angle of the camera that got it on film, the guy never tried to fight back. The police officer hit him 11 times, big, walloping hits, too. It looked awful, and I have to say that this particular officer seemed to be out of control. I admire cops for their line of work and I’m grateful to them, but not all people are good for that job.

Angela, I know what you mean about having teenagers! I remember all the trips to the mall and other “necessities” I had growing up. And nine years of college… yikes!

Melissa~Happy Birthday! Applebee's DOES sound good! We don't get to go out on *dates* very often, so going out to dinner, where you don't have to cut your neighbor's food for them, or eat meals that come with toys, is a MAJOR event for Jake and I. Enjoy! =)

I can't wait. =) We just did some math, and figured out if Maranda goes to college and is a *fifth year Senior*, which is becoming quite common, especially for students who have double majors....and Mason and Dayton both go to college too...we will have kids in College for something like nine straight years! OIY!

Angela, your mom gives some good advice. I have to say that I have heard that before, but it helps to be reminded. Especially because I had all the money worries before we had Isabelle, and things worked out wonderfully. Thanks! Sometimes I just need a reminder.

Melissa, dinner at Applebee’s sounds delish! I didn’t know they had a WW menu there, but it’s good to have a place to go out and still be able to follow a diet. I know when I go out I tend to splurge (in fact, did that just yesterday with chicken tenders and fried shrimp!) since we rarely go out these days.

Shawanda~When we were stationed in England a dress company used to have a fashion show before formal events, and you could rent a dress for the evening. I never did because none of the dresses were ever *quite* what I wanted, but I know a lot of the other ladies did that. We went to the SeeBee Ball one year, and I thought that was really neat. Those SeeBee's clean up real nice in their white gloves, spats, and sashes! The next year I did not attend because Jake had Shore Patrol Duty, so I sat in the kitchen with the British staff pigged out, and gossiped all night. The British can gossip with the best of 'em, so it was really quite fun! Jake still has his suit that he wore for the Holiday Ball in 1999, and has never worn it again....we really don't have a lot of events where it is appropriate. It is a formal/dinner suit, and the jacket comes down almost to his knees(think of the jacket Will Smith wore in the Wild West movie). He looks *fine* in that suit, but it is just a bit too formal for anything we go to now.

Barb~When we decided to have our second child, it was a *light bulb* moment for lack of a better word. We just decided one day that we were ready for baby #2. The mistake we made was thinking that conceiving the second child would be as easy as conceiving the first, and were dismayed when month after month after year passed with no results. Once he came though, our hearts just got bigger to accomodate all of that love we have for him, and we cannot imaging our lives without our son. Then when our midlife surprise (Dayton) arrived, we could not imagine we had ever lived our lives without her. Here is a little tidbit of advice my mother gave all of us....if you wait until the *perfect* time to have a child/other children, you will NEVER have them...you will probably never make enough money, have a big enough house or car, or a perfect job. Fortunately, babies don't care about those things, and just need to be loved.

Hello Ladies!

Thanks angela and j-mo mama!

I went to the site and found the most classy two piece formal, but I didn't buy it because I hadn't checked the board before I went out an bought a dress. It's really nice though, very classy and black with rhinestones and beads. I bought my shoes from Victoria's Secret though they are the black ones that looks like nothings holding them up (lucite). Thanks a Million!

I am going to keep checking to see if the lady gets in new dresses. She told me that If she gets new dresses in that I can exchange the one that I bought for something else.

Again, Thanks!

angela-
Girl, you are an ex-military (spouse), so You know that these Formals are a BIG DEAL!

I don't want to look like everyone else, Ya Know?

Good morning, everyone.

Ladies, thank you all for your well-thought-out responses about having another child. I do appreciate your insight and experiences.

How’s everyone doing with “Summer Sisters”? I’m at about page 100, and I’m really enjoying it. I don’t want to mention specifics because I’m sure we’re not all at the same spot in the book, but I really like the way Judy Blume writes.

I can't really offer any good advice on the bed subject. My daughter 4 still sleeps with us and my son has a bed in our room. But that's what we are comfortable with. They each have their own rooms, but would rather sleep in our room. I figure we will eat up this time in their lives because it won't be long before they won't want us anywhere near them!!! If that makes any sense. Speaking of bed it's time for me to get the kiddos rustled up and go there. TTFN

Cherokee - as soon as dd started to attempt climbing out of her crib, we switched her to a regular twin sized bed with a bedrail. We have had very few problems. Of course, she has put herself to sleep (most of the time anyhow) every since she left our bed at about 11 months and started sleeping in her bed. She was just about exactly 2 when we switched to a bed.

My guppy (well, dd's guppy) is having her babies. I don't think she is done, she has only had 5 but it has been hours since she had them. I don't want them to get eaten so I am waiting forher to finish so I can take her out of the tank and put her in the other one. Any ideas how many guppy fry are usually in a "litter?" She still has her gravid spot.

I am getting cable internet Friday - the cable company is offering a deal I can't refuse for 6 months, no contract. It will be cheaper than what I am paying for my very slow dial up isp now.

Must read for my ed tech class. Can't wait to learn a bunch of new stuff in there!

good evening ladies! whew, long afternoon at work but actually it was a lot of fun! and it's always nice to get a bit of a break from being mommy!

CHEROKEE, my daughter was 18 months when she jumped out of her crib. it was soo horrible, we heard a huge crash and there she was lying on the floor (tile). luckily the crib kinda caught her fat little legs and broke her fall so she didn't whack her head too bad. she did split her lip and had a fat lip for a few days. well that day the crib got unassembled and we put her in a toddler bed. NO problems adjusting and she was great right away. then when we moved into our new house she went into a regular bed (with rails on the sides). again, no problem.

BARB, i think all the ladies here have offered some good points about having baby number 2. i especially like Vanessa's post about really asking yourself WHY you want another one. as for me, well who knows if i'll be having another one. the ball is really not in my court! i guess time will tell..

well ladies, i must run for now, chat with you in the morning!!!

Kerri~ I've seen your pic...:0) I bet your dh and friends like it when you are the beer girl too LOL (wink).

Esai will be 18 months July 7. Today when he finally got up from his very long nap, I went in to get him and there he is with his chunky monkey leg hoised over the side of the crib. Just balanced there on the rail. (That couldn't have felt very good). He just looked at me like "whaddya lookin' at? HELP me!"

So. Any suggestions? I have co-slept with all the kids and just kinda transferred them to their cribs as they were ready. Esai likes his personal space, he has always napped in his crib, but at night been with us. When he started walking, at night time, he would start to head to his own room LOL...so we figured ok, he wants his bed. Now it would seem that he is ready to launch himself out of it. Not sure what to do about that :/

LH-you had "6"? I am so sorry. I had one and I know how emotionally distraught I was over that...I don't know how if I could make it through that. You are a strong woman and you have always sounded like a good mother to your daughter! She is a lucky teen!

Barb-We are considering trying for baby #2 this fall. It was hard for me to come to this decision only because I was in graduate school when I got pregnant. While pregnant, I figured I would go back to school once the baby was one. Well, she is now 2.5 and I still haven't gone back. I have decided that school can wait and I want to have another child to keep her company. That, plus I LOVE the job of motherhood. More so than I expected! Good luck with your decision in Oct! I pray things go well with your kidney issue.

JMO-I too love cruising around in golf carts! I like to be the beer girl when my husband and our friends play golf!

I've got some catching up to do...so who is wanting to have more babies? Personally, I say GO FOR IT, but that is just my opinion...I wish I could have given our daughter a little sister or brother to pal around with and to have someone when the hubby and I are gone. I had absolutely no problems with her birth and breezed right through it! When we tried again, I was not so lucky and miscarriaged...I had another six miscarriages after that before deciding to call it quits...it wore me out emotionally, physically and just was not meant to be! Hubby and I still "mourn" for all those babies we 'almost" had...I guess that is why we treasure our daughter so much and spoil her rotten!

Cherokee...Haha! Yeah, gopher is good too or a weasel! LOL! Thanks for the info on the site and I'll submit my name later when I have more time! Good cause!

Hi Margarita!

Esai took a monster long nap today. He is getting his incisors in and I gave him some ibuprofen and a little valarian root - he didn't sleep much last night. Wow. Papi and I will have our hands full tonight I think after his mega nap today. FUN! We are grilling and renting a movie tonight. The other night we rented "Mystic River" and "Master and Commander". They were both great. Geez. I don't know what to do with Maddi gone. I'm used to that kid being with me every second. I'm doing little projects around the house. I'm almost done sanding her bunkbeds down to be painted.

Hi peeps.
Day three of my summer classes. We are trying to cram a whole semester (16 wks) into 6 weeks and our class schedules are very full and, frankly overwhelming. I have only been to three of my four classes, the fourth doesn't start until next week, and I am wondering how I am going to find time for all the meetings for group presentations and all the reading and homework there is. *sigh* Ok, that is my little pitty pot, I think I will climb down now. ;o)

Melissa - I have been meaning to say that I am so happy you are feeling good!

Barb - I would love to have another - I can't say what specifically has me wanting to have another other than I would love to have one, and I know it would be good for dd to not be an only child. Until I get my blood pressure and weight both reduced, and either decide I can handla a baby and classes or to wait until I am done (2 yrs) I won't be having number 2. Unfortunately by the, dd will 5 so we may not end up having anymore.

What do I like to do to escape? Well, if it is just around here, I like to go out to the barn or the pasture and just have some quiet, reflective time to myself. Or I mess with my horses. Like Weny, I also like to spend time in the presence of Father. If dh and I get to go out of town to do something, we usually go to a Mariner's game or some sort of small event. We are going to a Mariner's game Friday night - his boss gave him two tickets and they are awesome seats!! Right on the field, foul ball territory. I am trying to decide if we will be taking Miranda - have to call the ticket company to see if I have to buy her an extra ticket.

Well, that's about all I have time for. Sorry I wasn't able to do any real personal posts.

Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 18:00:50 (EDT)

Hmmm, baby no. 2. Many of y'all probably remember some of my posts on this very topic. It's been an issue since Madelyn was born. We never discussed how many we'd have, and in the years since Madelyn's birth, we've never sincerely felt a desire for another baby. I loved, loved being pregnant, giving birth, nursing (FOREVER!), the whole thing. I just don't feel any need or want to do it again. Strange??

Barb, all I can say is that if you and your husband feel for sure that you want another child, take it day by day. It sounds like you have some pretty serious health issues you're dealing with at the moment, so perhaps you should concentrate on just getting healthy for now, and another child can be like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

I have felt extremely brief and infrequent desires for another child. I do mean brief and infrequent! I mean like I'll hold another person's newborn, or see a little marshmallow-looking baby, smell that baby smell, go through some of Madelyn's infant clothes, things like that, and think, "What if we did have another baby?" But that feeling usually fades as soon as I hand the baby back! I hope I'm not sounding mean, just telling y'all my heart.

I love my baby girl so much it's overwhelming, like my heart just can't hold any more and overflows. I just know that babies grow, turn into toddlers, then preschoolers, tweens, teenagers, on and on. And I don't think I want to do this with another child. It's like Madelyn is enough for me.

Barb, maybe you should ask yourself, and your husband, why do we want another child? Maybe that'll help clarify your desires. Not trying to turn this into Deep Thoughts or anything, but it's not just having a baby--it's inviting another human being into this world, and there's no greater responsibility.

Either way, you and your spouse have to be at peace with what you do, and when you do it. If you and your husband feel that you're able to do it, have TEN!!! It's just that we all need to be sure it's genuinely what we want.

Whew! That was heavy. Somebody tell a good joke to lighten things up! Oh, wait!!! I just thought of one that was e-mailed to me a couple of days ago. Let's see if I can remember it.

OK...Little Red Riding Hood was skipping through the forest with her basket, headed to Grandma's house when she spots the Big Bad Wolf crouching behind a tree. "My, what big teeth you have!" she exclaims. All of a sudden, the wolf jumps up and runs away!

So she skips on, whistling a happy tune, and shortly she sees the Big Bad Wolf again, this time hunkered down behind a log. She yells, "My, what big eyes you have!" Again, the wolf jumps up and skedaddles!

So she continues on her journey towards Grandma's house, and sure enough, she sees the wolf again. But now, he's crouched, lurking behind a big boulder. Little Red Riding Hood shouts, "My, what big ears you have!"

Finally, having had enough, the Big Bad Wolf springs out from behind the boulder and yells at her, "Would you just leave me alone!!! I'm trying to POOP!"

Have a great day, everyone!

SEA...fight night sounds interesting and FUN! My "escape" from home is to go down by the riverbank and sit on a big rock and just be by myself and listen to the water flowing by...sometimes I'll take the dog and let her swim and sometimes I even wade out myself...I also enjoy hiking in the woods with hubby and daughter.

Cherokee...I went to that website but couldn't find the place to endorse my support...could you be more specific? One thing I read stuck in my mind: "It seeks to become a community for people whose faith inspires them to alleviate human suffering rather than to cast the first stone."...seems we need more of this way of thinking in our world today, wouldn't you agree?

Is anyone planning on seeing " 'Fahrenheit

Barb~Ahhhh...planning #2. Well, the only insight I can offer is that I just felt like "one more is missing, one more is missing, another one is missing..." Does that make sense? LMAO...I will probably have babies until I can't have babies anymore :0)I just LOVE my big family.
The unique position YOU are in, is that you have a time pause (you need to wait till Doc says go for it because of the condition you are treating right now) and you can toss the idea around for a while. That is great!

It is hard to explain "how" to love additonal children. All I can say is..it's just...*there*. Things do get a little crazy, or complicated...sometimes I feel like my bootie is numb from driving these kids around all day...but I literally cannot imagine it any other way.

Are you an organized person? (I say this, because you seem to me that you are very organized... just a cyber-observation)I'll bet you will do just fine at it. Your daughter, also, sounds very sociable at her young age already. She will probably interact very well.

And HELLLOOO Cha-ching....grandparents are offering daycare??? Girl you got it in the bag. :0)

LOL..I'm not trying to talk you into it...tho I am proofreading this and it does *sound* like I am ;0), but if you can afford it, I encourage people to have big families with traditions...I think children cherish that when they grow up.

When I picked my kids up from one of their camps a couple of weeks ago I had everybody in the car, Meg's car was having her tires changed, (I was taking her back to work,) Esai was in his babyseat, I had Maddi and Nathan too. We were a full load. Like a bus. Maddi calls our van "the white bus". One my oldest son's friends (he is 12) said, "doesn't it bug you to have such a little sister and baby brother". (Prompted by Maddi's incessant YAKETY YAKETY YAK for a record 15 min straight) My son says (he's the one with drama..LOL) "Nah...there is always something to laugh at when they are around. Besides, they need me to show them the ropes." Isn't that the coolest?

Barb :) Deciding to have more children is a huge step. I would like to have one more, but can we afford to have another one?? I think of College and stuff. But I know, that if we did have another, we would come up with everything necessary. You would be able to love another child, just as you do Izzy. I know its easier said, but its really true. Izzy would love to be a big sissy, and you and DH would have plenty of love to go around a million times!! Child care is expensive, I know, I work full time also. But if your going to have g-parnets to do it, and you have to wait for the okay anyway, I say... GO FOR IT :) you wont regret it!!

Hi everyone. I hope you’re all having a good day.

I don’t often feel like I need an escape from home because I work full-time, and I’m usually anxious to GET home and be with my family. Plus, I spend some Saturdays with the 10-year-old girl I mentor, and though that’s not every weekend, we have fun when we’re together, which is a stress-reliever.

Cherokee, that fishing story is a riot. What a cutie. And your vacation slide comment killed me. I love hearing stories about everyone’s children, in part because it’s a glimpse of what I’ll experience in coming years.

Which brings me to this question for you guys: how did you decide to have baby #2? My hubby told me a few nights ago that he wants another baby. He said not now (now would be impossible, anyways, because of I’m treating my kidney disease and can’t get preggies for the health of the baby), but when things calm down and I’m OK’d by the docs, maybe then (fingers crossed that I’m healthy by October). I always thought I’d have babies two years apart, like my sister and I, but that was put on hold until my health is secure. Deciding to have #2 is way tougher than deciding to try for #1. I feel like so much would have to change first. We need a bigger house, we need free day care (Cory’s parents are moving here, hopefully by the holidays, so we’ll have free day care starting then), etc., etc. I guess part of me worries that I won’t be able to give Isabelle all the attention she needs/deserves if I work AND have an infant, you know what I mean? I know most of you have more than one child. Does anyone have any input on this topic?

Barb
Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 14:13:48 (EDT)

LOL~ you guys...I quit the trauma center FOUR WEEKS AGO..HELLOOOOOO...:) J/K...looking for a different kinda job, in medicine, maybe I'll administrative/managment this time. We will see. Something where I don't have to do CPR on kids for a while. I need a break from that. Most people in the rescue field take sebaticals every five or six years. Or at least vacations :0)

So it is freaking hot as usual here. Lovely. I dropped my two boys off at ASU today. They are at a diving camp all week. They dive as high as 9 meters. Next year they will go the 12, and after they turn 14 - 15 meters if they want to stick with it. This is Nathan's first year, and eery morning this week he is telling me is "stomach feels weird". I think he is a little nervous ;)...he is a natural athlete, and this is the first sport he is not immediately proficient in, so he is being challenged...and WOW! He is thinking that is weird I'll bet. Dylan, on the other hand, is not great at team sports, but has a Black Belt in Tai Kwando, and a pretty good golfer. He is, of course, excelling at this camp. Loves it. Funny how each one of your kids can be so drastically different and different things.

Madison is really enjoying fishing with grandma. She caught 2-10" rainbow trout yesterday. She told me on the phone "The BOYS never have caught a fish in grandma's lake!" So she is feeling very full of herself. I guess my mom had "one that got away" and Maddi told the neighbors at their cookout last nite "Gran tried and tried and tried to catch that stinker fish, but it got away. I was very proud of gran for trying so hard thought!" LMAO..that is what we tell MADDI when she tries hard at something but doesn't do well at it. Cracks me up.

My oldest daughter is such a case this week. She has decided at the drop of a hat (which is the beauty of being 21, unmarried and no kids, right?) that she doesn't want to be a massage therapist anymore, she wants to sell real estate. Soooo, she accepted a job that pays $30,000 a year as a real estate assistant (she has to be licensed for that...so back to school for her next month) and they will hire her at $22,000 until she gets her license to be an assistant, and then she will get her realtors' license, to sell real estate after that. But in the meantime, making $30,000/yr assisting. And Real Estate school on the weekends. My GIRL! ;) Although all that money we paid for massage school...ummmm...down the toilet.

I bet reading this post was kinda like looking at someone else's vacation slides huh? Oh well. LOL.

Victoria Secret even sells jeans! I found a great pair at a recent rummage sale. The girl never even wore them. They are very in style with big bottoms and the "fake" wear on the front. Just a BUCK! ;-)

Wendy~ Impressive!

Melissa~ Fight Night is watching ameture fighters kick eachother's butts without boxing gloves. There are even womyn who di it. There is also sumo wrestling (in the sumo suits) and ofcourse there are the scantally clad gals who wrestle. We were invited last week. I guess it's pretty big in Vegas...the pro stuff that is. There were seats selling for $4,000 about a month ago. WOW! This is very light stuff. I feel comfy taking my oldest, who is 11. It's not crowded because not many people know about it, and it's in a nice clean place. I like the music they play and the crowd. Tattooed guys and gals. Good people.

hello girls!

ANGELA, great suggestion for Shawanda. victoria's secret does carry beautiful clothes as well as sexy unmentionables. i've ordered lots of clothing (and a few sexy thangs!) from them. i also find the prices to be pretty good.

SEA, good question. i would say one of my escapes is going up to my husband's golf course and driving around in the cart with him. it is so beautiful and tranquil, just magestic. i also really enjoying going out in the boat. i lie across the bow and just listen to the waves crash underneath us, with the sun setting. my hair blowing in the wind...i feel so free and so alive out on the water!

well i'm off to work this afternoon, i shall check in later!

....and while I was there browsing the catalogue, I DID find a *normal* size little something to wear UNDER my beautiful gown. Wink! Wink!

SEA I would have to say that my escape is my quiet time with God. I don't usually go out of the house for that, but it is so peaceful. I think my other escape is going to the spa and getting a facial! I love them! Oh and singing in the Master Chorale for the Symphony here. DH plays the violin so we both are there practicing. We both love music. I think the hardest piece I have ever had to perform was Carmina Burana. (sp) My diaphram hurt so bad after the actual performance and we had two more to go!!! I am a first sorprano so man it was HARD! :)

Hey another question, Where are you all in Summer Sisters? Do you think it is good so far?

Jen you out there? Email me

Shawanda~Well girl...Victoria's Secret is not JUST undergarments! I bought a gorgeous Wine Colored tea-length dress from Victoria's Secret for the Holiday Ball in 1999. It was beautiful....and I was pleasantly surprised at the nice clothes they have for *normal* sized women! Not everything in the catalogue is underwear geared toward the size zero set. =)

SEA ~ What is "Fight Night"? My escape is home (when dh is working on the weekend) and just vegitating in the livingroom floor giving myself a pedicure! But if I had to choose something out of my home I would say Sunday morning at church. There is a special kind of release for me to be sitting in the pew and singing the praises of our Lord!

Tonight's "Fight Night"! Couldn't wait for it allll week! If I get brave enough, maybe I'll try the submission wrestling. Gathered a bunch of friends together and I'm taking my oldest son. :-) Should be a fun night! It's always nice to take a break and lose yourself in something as cool as this.

What are some of your escapes away from home?

Hi, everyone.

Kerri--I'm so glad that you enjoyed the book, and that you've recommended it to others. I think anyone with children/grandchildren should read it. It's a real eye-opener.

Speaking of spas and such, my hunny bought me an entire spa package for Mother's Day. Hmmm, over a month ago? And I've yet to use any of it. Too busy. But, I'm going to call today and make an appt for a pedicure/foot massage. I'm relaxing just thinking about it! I also need to get the massage (1 hour!), facial, and the manicure/hand massage. How can it be that I'm so busy?

Anyway, hope everyone has a terrific Wednesday. Looks like another hot one here on the Gulf Coast--mid 90's and humidity of, like, 1000%.

Toodles.

Sorry for all of the typos. I'm typing and letting Joyce talk to me at the same time. I'm not so gifted that I can make out her little sentences and focus on the keyboard. Sorry :(

Hello Ladies,

I've been out of the loop; just really busy. I getting ready to began volunteering with Girl Scouts. Also, my little precious angel has ballet, on Weds and Thurs, playgroup of Thurs. Playdates throughout the week, so I'm a pretty busy mom. It's barely getting up to the 70's here. Thank goodness since we don't have a/c in this and most parts of Europe.

How have you all been doing? I have to get ready for a ball that my husband and I are going to in July. I visited Macy's, Neiman-Marcus basically everywhere I usually shop in the states and I can't seem to find the right dress for my petite framce. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Choos!

Sorry I was out for the last few days. DH and I went took the kids to the new aquatic center here. And then yesterday I had a 1/4 of a root cleaning. Urghh so my teeth are sensitive. Anyway

Lyne I totally agree with you. Why can't these people get the hell out? They aren't doing anybody any good by getting caught and being made examples out of. I am telling you!

There is nothing we can do to prevent this from happening. We (the US) is trying to find who is doing this, but as soon as we stop that group, another one will pop up. I don't think we can ever get them all! I think what needs to happen is that these contractors from the US and other countires who are not military need to get a brain and leave. I don't think that is going to happen either. I am sure quite alot of them will be going aroung saying that this could never happen to me and I won't get caught.

Did you all see that former Pres Clinton's book came out. I have no desire in reading that book at all. I saw his interview on Oprah. And I liked it up until he said that the Republicans were to blame for all the light shed on his affair. Ok that totally pissed me off. I mean like he didn't do anything to help that light at all? LOL don't get me started on that man. Anyway. I will here and there today.
Talk to you all soon.

Holly...Haha! Kids seem to love anything that makes {fart} noises! LOL! Good luck on the play-offs! I know what you mean about hating when sports become so competative, but it is something out of our control and as long as it is "healthy" competition, IMO does no harm!

Melissa...I am soo happy for you!!! :-) Wish I could say the same, but my jaw has been killing me this AM which is why I am up so early...I am a mess and taking these damn pain meds is getting so old! Good luck with the WW as well! TC! Please stay in touch!

Margarita...haven't heard from you for awhile...hope all is well! I'll drop you an email later so watch for it! TC!

Humpday ladies :) I was reading about the beheading of the Korean also. I still believe they would have killed him anyway. Anyone who stays there who is NOT of Military status, is just asking for trouble, period! GET OUT, is it really that hard to understand?? These people are complete idiots to stay, and there have been plenty of warnings to leave. It is barbaric, no doubt about it, but,if your stupid enough to stay, well then, I guess it shouldnt come as a surprise.
It is so nice here today, 79 and sunny! WOW... too bad Im working! lol
Melissa :) soo glad to hear you are pain free for another day! Hope WW goes good for you.
Cherokee :) How is work going?
Angela :) pix of miss Daytie??? Im glad she had a good birthday.
Hi's and hello's to all :)

Good morning all. My kids think they are comedians! They woke me up to the sound of a woopie cushion in the ear. They laughed their butts off. I guess it was kind of funny. I got their ball pics last night, they were so good! My boys team is in second place, they start play-offs monday. He's at the age that he don't care how they place so long as he gets a trophy! I'm glad, I hate when they quit doing it for fun and get competitive, which will probably happen next year when he moves up to minors.
