I just saw 50 first dates. It's pretty hilarious! Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore show their stuff. I wasn't a fan of Adam Sandler because he plays characters that are boorish, obnoxious and overbearing in the swearing and sniping comments department. He was still playing that character, but the hook in the movie is ...I'm not going to tell, you just have to see it for yourself. By the way, I'm a resident of Hawaii, and not all local people are uneducated, drugged out on marijuana, or are extremely overweight and homely. But, hey, it was just a movie! ^_^

hi everyone. wow, i haven't been around much today. honestly, it is so flippin' hot here it's hard to move! my energy level has decreased!!!
SEA, i really don't know a whole lot about animals but i have heard of dogs and cats developing diabetes. maybe that's something to watch for with saygon?
MARIE, thanks for the great spaceship idea. i will have to keep that in mind and be on the lookout for huge boxes!
LH mentioned about her daughter and young love. sigh. does anyone remember what young love felt like? SO crazy intense, like thought you'd DIE without that person! scary, tho, because it seems like just yesterday i had my "puppy love" and now we all have to brace ourselves for our babies going through that!
going to veg out to HGTV for a while!!

Tanya~ I didn't get breeding info from ing online until I was pretty well into it. I did most of my research contacting other people who are breeders. I also went the library a lot. What breed are you thinking about breeding?
Something scary happened today. Saygon (our 7 month old lab) was playing fetch with me and after about 15 rounds , he seemed to have lost his muscle strength in his hind legs. He started dragging his legs..it was funny at first, because I thought he was just wearing himself out and getting weak, but then he was real wobbly when he walked. We gave him ice water and I dumped some on him and made him lay down, because even with his leg weakness, he still wanted to play fetch, but the poor pooch could hardly walk! Ofcourse the kids couldn't contain themselves and they laughed pretty hard...after all it WAS funny to see. He was still wagging his tail and trying to get the ball. I called a vet who was open...ours was closed..and they said to bring him in right away, but that it wold be like $300 for ER service and x-rays...so I kept trying to reach our vet and finally I did. He said that Labs can have low blood sugar when they work hard. It is quite common he said, and that if I gave him some meat, or a piece of wheat bread, he'd be fine. So, I gave him a big juicy left over burger, and only 10 mins later, he was just fine, playing fetch again. I thought he was having a heart attack for a little while. It was sooo strange.
Never had that happen in all of my years of owning labs.
Anyone else ever hear of this?
Got some great pix, though. I'll post them soon.

Good evening everyone! We just got back from taking the kids fishing, they had fun. Then we stopped by to see my MIL who just had gall bladder surgery yesterday. She is recovering well. We are planning on going to the drive-in tomorrow night to see Spider Man 2 and Harry Potter 3. Hopefully they are both as good as their predicesors (msp?). Well gotta go get some supper on the table.

The last movies I went to see were Brother Bear and The Passion. There are about 10 movies I want to go see-- but trying to find the time in the summer is near impossible.

Chase~So, what movie have you watched lately that you would recommend to others? That IS the topic, am I correct? Don't be such a blowhard, sheesh!
Barb~When we had our Savannah spayed, the vet said you need to wait until they have their first *cycle*. Poor Tobi! Our doggie had an accident one night, and he was SO upset! I felt really bad for him, and it was only pee on the kitchen floor which is easily cleaned up with some paper towels. Have fun at work! I have to attend quite a few meetings too, and I really don't like sitting in a conference room half the day at all because you get NOTHING else of your workload finished. Ugh.

Hello, everyone. I noticed that a lot of people are watching movies lately and I can only assume that it’s because there’s nothing good on TV these days. Hubby and I are in the same boat – watching lots of movies, too (we get HBO and Cinemax on demand). Last night we watched “Insomnia” with Al Pacino and Hillary Swank (I like her). It was just eh. Other movies we’ve seen lately: “Identity” with John Cusack (love him) but it wasn’t that good, “Haunted Mansion” with Eddie Murphy, which I liked but in a hokey kind of way.
Margarita, I know first-hand what happens to puppies who are spayed too early. My Tobi was spayed at the SPCA when she was only 8-weeks-old and she’s had problems since. Her vet describes it like she wasn’t fully developed yet, so now she has incontinence issues. She has to take a pill two times a day to control it (she’s really good about her pill). And it’s not like she can’t hold it any longer, so she’ll go in the house… it’s like she’s laying there, happily sleeping, and it’ll leak out. She gets super upset when it happens so we’re running around trying to console our dog and clean up the mess. It’s not pretty. Luckily, the pills work really well and I can’t even remember the last time it happened to her. But still, it’s too bad it’s happened at all.
I fully support the SPCA, but I don’t like what happened to my Tobi. I like their policy that all animals that come in get fixed, however, if they’re too young, then why not wait? I would have happily signed an agreement that said I’d get her spayed when she was old enough. With our other dog (not from the SPCA) we waited until the vet said he was ready (I think around six months or so).
My job is crazy lately, and it’s just begun. My manager is going out of town for two weeks starting tomorrow, and I’m stepping in as manager while she’s out. I’ve been taking over her duties this week, and man, she’s one busy lady. I don’t know how she gets anything accomplished with so many meetings all day long! But I’m really looking forward to the added responsibility (even if it’s only for a short time) and working with people I don’t always see. So if I’m not around as much, you know why!

Good morning everybody!!
We watched *The Butterfly Effect* last night too! It was really pretty good, but it DID jump back and forth a lot, so we had to pay attention and keep up. The different outcomes of his life, given different outcomes of other events of his life, was pretty neat though.
Marie~A Chinese Buffet is a really neat idea! Feeding 100 guests is hard, and a buffet sounds like just the way to do it.

Good morning girls!
I am finally recovered from the holiday weekend and a migraine.
Lh-- I hope your daughter feels better today.
Margarita-- Your poor little girl. I hope she is not in to much pain today. :( We currently have a 16 week puppy and we were just talking last night about if we were going to get him neutered or breed him. I think I have to look into breeding him more before I make any final decsions.
Sea-- I need some info on breeding. Can you send me some links to point me in the right direction?
j-mo mama-- My 3 year old LOVES space ships and I am going to steal your idea for this weekend and we are going to make a spaceship. Thanks
Marie-- A FULL CHINESE BUFFET?? What time-- I will be there! ;)
Melissa-- congrats on the weight loss!!!
Wendy-- You and your family are in my prayers right now!

Morning girls!
Just as I'd expected, daughter is not a happy camper today! She was up bawling most of the night and I heard her get up several times. {My heart aches for her at times like these...I was young once too!}
The Butterfly Effect was OK...just seemed to jump around alot! We never got the chess set out afterward and I wasn't going to make the kids spend their last night together showing me how to play! However, I think he left the set here so I maybe can figure it out by the time he gets back from vacation {LOL!}!
Looks to be a nice, sunny day today! Have a good Thursday all and TC!

Everytime I fall asleep, I dream I am being suffocated by some strange person. Thanks a lot stuffy nose!

Yikes - dd got her first real "owie" today. She's never had any real spills or injuries but she fell down at daycare today and landed face first on the cement pation in the play yard. It's not a deep abrasion, but it is all red and bruised and puffy - little cuts on her lips. Poor baby.
I can't recall who asked - Barb, I think, about why we haven't had our puppy nuetered. Well, I think that early nuetering / spaying can inhibit growth so we were going to wait at least a year to have him nuetered. Also, we didn't buy him from my sis and bil but made a deal that if we did breed him, they would get the first choice of his first litter, or the stud fee as reimbursement for him. So, I sort of feel like even though they didn't say we needed to pay for him (we volunteered to take him because he was one of two left and they were tired of having the puppies ruin their yard and all the work to keep the space they were kenneled in clean, etc. They were much more work than they had anticipated. We had been thinking of adopting another young dog, so I jokingly told them that I would take him when they were ready to give him away) that we need to either pay them at least the minimum they sold the last puppy for, or go ahead and breed him and let them have the fee or the puppy. Sorry, that was a really grammatically messy and confusing explanation.
I better get to work. I can't believe my summer semester is already halfway over!!!
Buenos noches!!
PS J-MO - I would like to see your little girl's bday pictures, if you don't mind sending them - it sounds like they were good pics.

SEA, Congrats on selling another pup! I could never be a breeder...I would have to keep them all! LOL!
Daughters b/f is coming over after work in abit and we're watching "The Butterfly Effect"...he is also bringing his chess set over to refresh my memory on playing the game! {THIS should be good!} Haven't played in years, but used to be quite good at it!
He leaves for Maine tomorrow morning for a whole month and the daughter is just beside herself! I know I will have a heartbroken child on my hands for a few days...such is being young and in love! I am taking her to lunch tomorrow and shopping so hopefully that will take her mind off things!
TC all!

I always thought spayed and neutered dogs being better behaved was an old wives tale. We have an older spayed female who was as well behaved as my female who is not. I mean, they were always similar. I also hate the idea that some think spayed dogs tend to gain weight. Out of all of my research while becoming a breeder...I found that it is nothing but lack of exercise and over feeding that causes weight gain...and not enough attention given when there are behavioral problems.

j-mo- hey! your idea sounds great with the sheets and the flashlights! another idea is if you happened to have an extra large box..paint the outside red, white & blue and stick on some glow in the dark stickers on the inside..we did this with our pre-school class last year and the kid's loved it! we kept it in the classroom until the children eventually demolished it from playing in it so much. lol

hi guys!
well thank God for a 3 year old's imagination, because i had no clue how to make a spaceship (any ideas?) instead, we took a sheet, draped it over the kitchen stools and sat on a mat and pretended it was a spaceship. oh we had flashlights too, which apparently made it all "authentic"!
BARB, i would lie to you and tell you i created that gorgeous cake but you'd expect me to whip one up if you ever came to visit! let me tell you, that cake is DELICIOUS. i mean INCREDIBLE. and the guy who made it is actually a fireman (a fireman who can bake? yum!)i've never even met the guy. my brother in law is a fireman and arranges it for me all the time. i paid about $40 for that cake, which is a really great price and it is just sooooo good. i can FEEL the pounds packin' on!lol!

Melissa :) Great work on the WW! Awesome job.
Angela :) Great pix :) Yes, I oooohed and awwwwwed too :) Mason is a lil blondie now! Cute
Barb :) I got this pix, sooooo cute!! Izzy is adorable. Thanks for sharing.
I have to agree, dogs that are fixed are much better behaved, calmer too, especially males. We have only had male dogs, and there is a world of difference after they are fixed. I also have owned all Labs, I just love them. They are SUPER with kids, babies to older... just overall great dogs. Very loyal and protective. Need I say more? lol

Ew, Angela, I had never heard that about free puppies before. How sad.
Spayed and neutered dogs are also better behaved. Margarita, what’s going on with your puppy? Are you trying to decide if you want him/her to be a breeding dog?

Wednesday, July 07, 2004 at 13:22:40 (EDT)
Barb~We've had a couple of Lab mixes too (that we adopted) and they were great dogs! Our female showed up at our house already pregnant, and had 11 puppies that we had to find homes for! Yikes. We did not advertise them as FREE though...we had heard that sometimes those animals end up being taken by companies and used for animal research. We advertised them for I can't remember how much money, but when they were chosen by their new owners we only charged the price of their puppy shots, worming, etc.

Wednesday, July 07, 2004 at 11:31:52 (EDT)
I second that, Barb! LOL Our lab is our only purebred dog we have ever had - we usually get mutts from similar situations. In my experience mutts are the best dogs, but then again all our mutts have also had lab in them. I am a very strong proponent of responsible pet ownership - I never have understood why people who don't have valuable dogs for breeding would not spay or nueter their dogs. Then again, I don't always agree with planned breeding, either. That's why I am struggling on what to do with our puppy - we have a few more months before we have to decide anyhow.

Melissa, I know you said you’ll have to wait a little bit, but if you’re looking for a good dog to be around kids, I recommend any lab mutt. I’m a big fan of mutts. I think both my dogs have lab in them, and they’re great with Isabelle. And you can get one at the SPCA for next to nothing, plus they already come spayed or neutered so you don’t have to worry about doing it yourself. If you want a puppy, hold out for one, just check often. We got my oldest dog just by stopping in the SPCA to “look” on a Saturday afternoon. She was eight weeks old and was with her brother and sister – the three of them had been found on the side of a busy road.
Or watch the classifieds for “free puppies” (those will otherwise end up on the side of the road or at the SPCA, anyway!). That’s how we got our second dog. He lived in the yard of some people who lived in a trailer out in the hicks. He was one of a batch of 11, I think. The family was so desperate to get rid of the puppies, yet they let the mother run around free without being spayed. Ugh.

Good morning, everyone. I had a nice, relaxing night last night. I watched part of “Big Brother” and then saw “The Amazing Race”. I have to say that my curiosity about the Alison girl from “Big Brother” got the best of me, which is why I watched “The Amazing Race”. I had never seen that show before, but it’s a pretty neat idea. To those that watched the last “Big Brother”: can you believe her boyfriend is still with her after all she did on that show!? Their relationship seems a bit screwed up… the previews for next week showed him saying, “I don’t even want to look at your face.” And her replying, “I hate your face.” Healthy relationship!
Oh, I remembered another favorite movie, “Not Another Teen Movie”. It’s a spoof of 80s movies and it’s stupidly funny. I love it. And the soundtrack is even better.
J-mo mama, your little girl is so adorable. That photo of her eating icing off the cake is hilarious (and what a great-looking cake… did you make it?). Her hair is so long and pretty! She is gorgeous! Isabelle has a couple blanket stuffed animals like you are talking about. One she sleeps with and another one has a button to push and it plays a song.
Melissa, congratulations on doing such a great job with WW. Keep up the good work! I may have to look into that.
Wendy, I’m sending good thoughts for your brother.

Melissa~That is great! As long as you are steady and consistant in your weight loss, you will reach your goal and be healthy too! I never do diet *gimmicks* because you DO lose the weight quickly, but that is NOT healthy weight loss and your body hordes calories and you gain it all back in no time. WW is a great program, and you *look* like you have gotten off to a fantastic start. Good for you!
Doggies~My parents have a Maltese, and a Pommeranian(he is my sisters...he came to stay with Grandpa and Grandma for a long weekend, and that was six years ago!) Anyhoo...they are VERY jealous of anybody taking grandma and grandpa's attention, and they are NOT trustworthy around little people at all. They are nice little dogs for my parents, but they just do not care for kids.
angela
Wednesday, July 07, 2004 at 10:47:11 (EDT)
J-Mo Mama ~ Thanks! Actually WW has been the easiest thing I have ever done! In fact so far the only "hard" part has been eating ALL of points every day. Because of my CURRENT weight I actually lose 2 points a day now. (the less you weigh the less points you get) So hopefully it will be a little easier for me to get my points in every day. I think what has made this so easy for me is that I don't really view it as a choice. I know that I HAVE to lose weight - I'm a COW, and WW has been proven through the years to work - so I HAVE to do it! If you remove choice things are a lot easier. Anyway, that is just my take on it!

Good morning yall!
Weight Watchers update: I lost 2.6 pounds this past week, that is a total loss of 7.4 pounds. Well I guess that means only 58 pounds to go! LOL
On the dog issue - it doesn't look like this is going to be an issue for a few weeks. Now dh is saying he wants to wait a little bit on the dog :( I guess I just have to wait - for a dog and a baby (darnit!)
Margarita - that is funny about the beagle comment! LOL.
Oh well, hope everyone has a good day - will check in later!

Getting ready to shut this thing down...we've got a GIGANTIC thunderstorm heading right at us! We're going to go outside and watch the lightning for awhile...awesome display!! {the weather nut that I am! :-)
Margarita is very correct about smaller dogs being overprotective and not so great to have around small children! I had a Pomerainian before hubby and I got married and once we had our daughter, he became very jealous and would pee on the carpet if she started crying {out of spite!}...also a neighbors child dropped him and boke his leg and it never really healed correctly...they are not very "sturdy" little dogs. It seems the smaller the dog, the bigger the attitude and I would seriously reconsider if you plan on making it a childs pet! JMO!
G'nite all!

Margarita~ LMAO!!!! at your comment..
~~a Beagle in particular is just a nutjob inside a little dog's body~~
:-D
SO true!
And Blue Tick Heelers..OMG, they are SO spastic. Those dogs are smaller than labs and could NEVER be in an apartment, and stay sane!
We give our dogs a shave twice a year. This prevents the shedding all over our home. It's sooo nice..and the dogs seem to really love it. One shave and they're shed free for up to 4 months!
I'm not find of poodles. I hate those LABRADOODLES that are being sold for $1200 each these days. They're so ugly~ imo.

Wendy - I will say a prayer for your brother. I know it's hard - my cousin is there (Strykker Brigade) and dh's best friend is just finishing up. We had a big family dinner with my cousin and his siblings and parents the last night he was allowed outside of base before leaving. It was very emotional. I don't know if he is just trying to protect us, or if he is telling the truth, but he says the media makes it out to be worse than it is. I hope that eases your mind a little (((o))).
Angela - your kids are so cute!!!!!!!How did Mason get such blond hair?? Thanks for the pic.
Barb - cute picture - is Izzy a ham? I thought "Blow" was pretty good, as well.
J-Mo: Yes, I saw "I am Sam." It is an awesome movie. Sean Penn has really showed his real talent over the last few years. And you are right on about Dakota Fanning - saw her on Jay Leno and she was just adorable and charming.
LH - Divine Secrets - the book is better (isn't it always). Cute about the duck - I have heard they make terrific pets. Glad your dad is doing better.
On dogs - well, our dogs stay outside in a very large kennel we built for them. It is probably about half the size of a city lot's back yard. They are in it when we are not home, with the exception of our old dog who prefers to be in our mud room on his cushy bed while we are gone. Our dogs are much happier outside than locked up inside, I can say that. My husband built them a nice, big dog house. They have a huge sprice tree covering a good third of their kennel, and they have plenty of water. We let them out several times a day to play, and they sleep inside with us. Would they like to be out more? Absolutely. DO I feel like we are mistreating them? NO - they are better off than many other homes they could have. They have grass, sand and river rock in their kennel - they have a creek to play in when we are home, 29 acres to run on when we are home and outside with them, birds to try to catch (but never do), horses to bark at, deer to scent out (never givent eh cahnce to do more than that), balls to chase, etc. I think they are pretty lucky, actually. Small and large dogs both - terriers and poodles do not shed hair - if that is an issue for you Melissa the poodle is probably your best bet. You do have to have then groomed, or do it yourself. Small dog s can be difficult with children, they get little dog complexes, and tend to be much more energetic and nuerotic than larger dogs. I see SEA's point in that some large dogs are more appropriate to small homes than small dogs. LOL a Beagle in particular is just a nutjob inside a little dog's body. Dh's grandma had both the large standard poodles and a great dane, and she doesn't have a little house (and she ahs a big yard) but the dogs were mostly content to lay in their beds unless someone new came over. The little dogs I know are all over the place, regardless of how much room they have - they have a ton of energy. Keep in mind, I have only known small pugs, poms, chihauahas (the ones I knew were grouchy), and laso apsos (I know I didn't spell that right). Oh, and Shi-Tsus - which were surprisingly good with the kids in my friend's family. ANyhow, my whole convoluted point, if you are thinking of having a child, Melissa, choose a small dog carefully - they are much more likely to be possesive of you and hold a grudge once you have a baby, if you have the dog first.
Marie - lol, I am not putting down your choices in movies but The Phone Booth - I am curious why you liked it. Carson, maybe (he is a good reason to like an otherwise unlikable film ;o).
I am waiting for dh to get home - need to go grocery shopping and dd has been away all day while I went to school - thought she might like to stay home instead of go with me and just be at home. I was supposed to go to the arena tonight and go riding with a friend, but I don't think I am going to be able to - I have to work on an important assignment too, don't want to put that off too long and be tired while I am doing it.
Better go and play with dd while I have the chance.
eSee you later, ladies.

Some dogs LOVE to be outside. Some dogs don't. Our dogs would rather sit in their kennel and enjoy the breeze and smell the air than be indoors on a beautiful day. I think it's cruel to keep dogs (and cats) cooped up inside all day and all night. I also feel dogs should be fed nice big raw beef bones as a treat once in awhile. I'd hate having to eat the same food every day for my entire life. And, I'll stick by what I first said that a larger dog is better in an apartment than a smaller dog. (like a Beagle vs. a Great Dane) If an apartmet is too small for a dog to stretch it's legs, then it's time to clean it up, or find a new one. Something that small is hardyl livable.
I found a great site for those of you who are anti-Bush (like ME!) :-) It'll make you laugh. I'm not posting it to get anyone mad. If you aren't anti-Bush, don't go there. (then you won't get mad..unless, ofcourse, you actually like Bush yet you are very open minded and can take it for what's it worth and not get all catty.

Melissa, sounds like your dogs are well cared for and get lots of exercise! Sorry about the older one who is sick..our pets are a part of our family and it is hard to watch them suffer.
Wendy, I have a friend that just left for Iraq too {He's been on 24-hr notice now for months..not sure what that means, but he left last week}I will keep you and yours in my prayers and please let your brother know that this girl says a big THANK YOU to him for serving his country!

Just letting you all know again that the book for this month is The Time Travelers Wife. We start on the 15th
I am not going to be on the rest of the week.
As most of you know, my brother is A Marine. He was deployed this morning to Iraq. We knew from May that this was coming and he is finally gone. So I am depressed about it and I just want to take some time to myself. I need to help out my mom with the yellow ribbons and such.
If anyone here prays for our soldiers please keep Lcpl G. Gutierrez 24th MEU in your thoughts and prayers.

I've seen White Chicks, The Terminal and The Day After Tomorrow this summer. Surprisingly, White Chicks was not that bad. I actually enjoyed it. The Day After Tomorrow had great effects, but a weak storyline. But not that bad. The Terminal was good. It's another Tom Hanks acting movie. He really doesn't need anyone else in the scene he's so good on his own. He was great in this one.

Well my search for a puppy continues....uggg...basically what I do know is that mose of them I cannot afford!! LOL
On the issue of dogs outside - I have a Golden Retriever outside (who came to me from my aunt and uncle who just could not handle her any more - so it was either my backyard or the pound - so I took her. April is a wonderful dog - she alerts us anytime anyone gets near our drive way!! Also we have a yellow lab that just showed up on our carport 2 years ago and she just kinda adopted us - she is terminally ill with heartworms and is about 11 years old. They are in our backyard where they have plenty of room to run and play (well Dixie, our lab doesn't run or play much - she is too old! LOL) We love them both dearly and cannot imagine life without them. We go out and play with them every evening and we try to steal a few minutes with them in the morning before work. I don't think having them in our yard is at all cruel.
J-Mo Mama - Thanks for the good luck!

Angela, wow, what a bunch of cuties! Dayton reminds me of Izzy, the way she was hugging that bear. Isabelle’s really into snuggling with stuffed animals right now (and real animals, too… she’ll hug our dogs and make the kissy sound). I love it. My hubby’s parents saved his stuffed animals from when he was little and Izzy’s fallen in love with one of the teddy bears. I’ll send a photo from this weekend.
Cherokee, “Zoolander” should be on my list of faves. That movie kills me. When the Wilson brother smashes open the computer to get the files out… oh, I died!

Gorgeous gorgeous pics Ang...thanks! Mason...hmmm...looks like a little stinkerpants LOL!
I loved "Man in the Moon" also. I love anything with Sam Waterston in it...and even way back then Reese was showing her talent. It was so sad though. Bawled like a baby with that one. I loved how the sisters were so close!
I'm looking forward to "Meet the Fokkers" I hadn't even heard of it until here. Ben Stiller rocks...funny guy. Hey...have you guys seen "Zoolander"? It was a pretty weak story line (duhhh!) but, really showcased how funny Stiller is I think.

Thanks to all who have expressed kind wishes about my dad...he is doing alot better now, but with the added depression and anxiety problems I fear we have a rocky road before us.
Barb, so you've seen "The Man In The Moon" also! WoW! Everyone I've mentioned it to was like "Wha?", LOL! When "Court" tried to grab his hat off that tree and fell off the tractor {thingy} and got caught up in it and then his mother found him...whoa! I was bawling my eyes out! Such a powerful movie about growing up and the lessons of life!!
I am a huge animal lover and may I suggest an English Springer Spaniel {like the kind the Bush's have!}..We have a female and she is just medium sized and the most loyal, loving dog I've ever owned!
My hubby was watching a dog show on TV one evening {I don't really kow why!} and when the Bichon Frise came on he was like "what kind of dog is that?" and when he tried to say the name it came out "Bitchin frizzy" {HA!} so now we always call them that!! LOLOL!!
I had a pet that I kept outside...now, please don't laugh...but it was a DUCK that we had gotten daughter for Easter one year and we had had "Deedle" for 5-wonderful years!! She was just like a dog and would follow us all around, quack like crazy when we left her alone and would lay her long neck over my shoulder while I pet her! Such a good pet! Unfortunately, something got into her pen during the night and tore her to pieces...we were heartbroken! But I swore then and there that I would NEVER put a pet outside again to defend for itself!! All my pets are inside only!{Dog, fish, SPIKE the cockateil and my baby, my 28-yr old Amazon parrot!}

hi girls!
well litte miss birthday girl has had quite a lovely day so far! we went to lunch, where the waiters spoiled her rotten. they just adore her there! (funny, they USED to pay attention to ME! not anymore! lol!)
yeah apparently the "meet the fokkers" movie will have dustin hoffman as mr. fokker and barbara streisand as mrs. fokker, and all the returning cast. should be a riot!
funny you're all discussing dogs. we got our daughter a toy dog for her b-day that barks etc, anyway my husband was like "oh, let's get a REAL one!" i said NO WAY, because i know I'LL have to clean up after it etc etc! like i don't do enough already! i totally agree that it is CRUEL to get a dog and just lock it up all day. i'm not a huge dog lover but i think that is so mean, esp when i see dogs in the 100 degree (plus!) heat all day.
anyway let me get back to my baby. she wants to do puzzles, and she rules the roost today!
MELISSA, good luck at WW tonite! we'll be anxious to hear how much you've lost this week!

I'm sorry Saraj, but I *respectfully* have to disagree with you. Big dogs lumber around. They need to stretch their legs or they get FAT. I would never own a large dog in dinky apartment. That is just selfish and cruel.

Barb~I agree with you. I CANNOT stand to see dogs tied up day in and day out. If you are going to get a dog, only to leave it tied up outside, then just get a lawn ornament! It eats less, and doesn't poop so much! I just don't see the point of getting a dog only to chain it up...what a sucky life! We have had outdoor dogs too, and never chained them up.

Regarding dogs and sizes and homes...
Most big dogs need much less exercise than smaller dogs. For instance, a Great Dane would be a better choice for a small apartment than a Beagle.

Barb, I don't think you are being judgemental at all. I think for an indoor dog, your house should be a good size, if your dog is big=house should be big. Also, bigger dog, bigger hair in the air, DH is wayyyy allergic. Outside is the option. But as I said, I DON'T agree with that. Smaller dogs can be inside. Our house is 4 bedrooms, but with the kids, umm, not much room for a big dog ya know? LOL

About "Summer Sisters"... am I crazy, or did someone say we'd be reading from June 15 - July 15? That's what I've thought all along, which is why I haven't really discussed it. I didn't want to ruin it for those still reading. If I dreamt that time frame, does it sound good to others? That way busy readers have plenty of time to finish, and we can discuss the old book while getting started on the new book.
Angela, "Breakfast Club" is definitely on my fave list.

Melissa~ When we buy another house we have talked about getting a bichon frise!
Now, DH is horribly allergic to any animal with hair, but he feels like if it is "small" he will manage through it because he wants his children to experience the job of having a pet. Bichons are good with kids. Some small dogs are not however. We have also considered getting a Chihuahua. My take on the dog thing: since we live in AZ, and we don't plan on moving to cooler country anytime in the near future, we have to get an inside dog. I believe it is thoroughly CRUEL to let your dog roast outside. (Many dogs die in Arizona who are left outside-even with water!)Otherwise we would have a lab like before (We had an AKC registered golden Lab-Dallas)but we gave her to our friends in Northern AZ. Labs are beautiful and they are great with kids. IMO, I think they are the best dogs for kids. It's just not possible when someone in your house is allergic ( a big dog=more hair);) and outside isn't an option. Dang it.
Bichons are very cute Melissa.
Thought of another movie: Good Fellas!

I’ve been where you are, and I know it’s an awful feeling, so feel free to talk to me if you need support (I can get you my e-mail address, if you like).
J-mo mama, how wonderful about Owen! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your little girl!
Vanessa, I agree that “Amistad” is something all Americans should see. As well as “American History X”.
I love movies. Some faves: “Pecker” (a John Waters movie), “Almost Famous”, “The Wedding Singer”, oldies like “Goonies”, “Sixteen Candles”, “Some Kind of Wonderful”, and old scary ones like “The Exorcist” (still scares me to death!). Oh, I really like “School of Rock”, too.
I had a good weekend. Saturday I went to a July 4 festival with the little girl I mentor. Sunday hubby, Isabelle and I went to a festival that had kiddie things that were too big for her and too small for us, but it was good family time. With my day off yesterday, we went to lunch, did some shopping, got haircuts and relaxed! It was wonderful… I need a three-day weekend every week!

Hmmmm...Angela, you're really getting my memory going here. It's hard to think of things you like sometimes until something else reminds you, ya know?
We recently got Schindler's List, since it just came out on DVD. I'd seen it years ago, but watched it again. Wow, that is a powerful movie. I also love history, and if it's based on actual events, then all the better. To see history play out before you, even if it does have Hollywood's spin on it, is so riveting to me.
Another unforgettable historical is Amistad, with Djimon Huntsu (I know I butchered that!). Again, it's based on actual events, and the imagery is so real, so candid, and so moving. That is a movie EVERYONE in America should see.
Good question--the wheels are turnin'!

Hey, I gotta tell y'all this! I'm so excited--nothing like this has ever happened to me before!!!
I just won FOUR AUCTIONS ON E-BAY!!! I have never bought anything on e-bay, and I'm so PUMPED! (Please insert pathetic life joke here) My hunny buys/sells on there all the time, but I've never paid a lot of attention to it.
Well, the other day I got on there and was just browsing through the stores, and I found a clothing store that sells Gap, Guess, Banana Republic, things like that. I love those clothes but would never pay full price for them. Well...get this...
I won TWENTY-TWO PIECES of clothing for, shipping and all, $70! Can you believe that??? There are a couple of dresses/skirts in there, but it's mostly shirts. Some dressy, some casual, but all BRAND-NEW WITH TAGS.
I'm so excited! Deep breath. OK. I'll calm down now and try to figure out how to do the Pay-Pal thing. Hmmm...maybe I'll just wait for my hunny to do it tonight. I gotta calm down!

Hi, everyone. Good grief, who ordered this heat/humidity?
Hmmm...movies? What are those? You mean they still make them for adults?!? The last movie I saw in the theater (don't laugh) was LOTR Return Of The King. Sigh...such terrific movies. I loved all three, loved the books, love it all!
As for DVD's, along with Angela, I'd have to say that Gone With The Wind is my all-time favorite movie. Again, the book was terrific, movie was superb. Nothing about it I don't like.
Terms Of Endearment is also high on my list. Gotta love tear-jerkers.
I haven't seen a "romantic" movie in a dog's age. My hunny would rather have his toe-nails peeled backwards than watch anything "girly!" And since most of our movie watching is done together it's usually something we both can agree on. Surprisingly, we both like a lot! We both love James Bond, mysteries, action movies, things like that.
As for children's movies--hold on to your seat! I have a ton of those to reccomend! But, I'll just hit the highlights. We love Veggie-Tales, and A Snoodle's Tale is soooo good! It's about being happy with the way God created you, not trying to fit into other people's image about what you are/should do/can do. It's illustrated so beautifully, and told in such a lyrical fashion. Highly reccomended.
Another favorite is The Sandlot. Y'all seen it? It's so good. Not really very girly, but I've always liked it. It's about a group of neighborhood boys growing up in the 50's/60's. Very entertaining.

MiMi,
LOL I feel like I do a pretty decent job of educating myself, and I am more of a democrat that a republican so I can't say that my lack of desire to see F9-11 is politically biased. The clips I saw of it show a very one sided, manipluated story that would please an extremely narrow- minded, "Get Bush out of office no matter what" -thinking, controversy -loving person. I am not saying that there are no valid points made by the movie, only that I don't need somebody to show me it in a garbage film that is made for controversy -raising and money making purposes only - I am intelligent enough to read the news, from unbiased sources and make up my own mind. But I am glad that you enjoyed the movie. I would hate to see you waste the money by going to a movie you didn't enjoy.
LOL I wonder how many people who are watching F9-11 and touting it are even registered to vote??? I wonder if they can name the main differences in the platforms of Kerry and Bush?? If they can't I wonder how they know who to vote for??

Books and movies, I can never pick favorites.
I just watched a restoration of Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, and that was pretty good.
I love Adam Sandler.....
For lightharted movies I love the Wedding Singer.
I also like Ben Stiller... we just watched Duplex and that was cute. Meet the Parent's etc.
As far as dramas go, I have too many favorites to list, both classics and newer films. I recently watched Wonderland and that was a pretty cool movie - sort of a mystery and the cinematography was good.
DD was not impressed by the fireworks at all last night. She wasn't scared of them, but she was just BORED. The little diva!
I need to go, have a great day.

Most of the movies we see these days are those with appeal to a seven-year-old. But I do recommend 50 First Dates. Even my husband liked it. I think it's a very charming movie -- and it shows that Adam Sandler has more talent than he's sometimes given credit for having. For movies of all time, my tops are The Big Chill, The Deer Hunter, To Kill a Mockingbird, Gine with the Wind, It's a Wonderful Life, Inherit the Wind and Stand By Me.
angela -- Unlike you, I HATED Terms of Enderament. I'd have to say it's at about the top of my most hated movies. I guess that proves that we don't agree on everything! ;-)

"The Notebook"!!!! This was one of the best love stories that I have ever seen. It is not a movie for children, but every married couple will love it. My husband is even recommending it to his friends.

My husband and I saw The Terminal and enjoyed that one. When it comes out on video, I would recommend The Secret Window with Johnny Depp. It's pretty good.
